Chapter 4, Part 4: The Road to the Unknown.

Author's Note: Here we finally are. I really do apologise for the several, erm, months it took me to write this last chapter. It's completely finished now, even the epilogue, and will be posted through the next 24 hours. And I'm never, ever attempting a project this size again!

First comment? Well, go me! I have such a soft spot for this series (I like the unique characterization), and this chapter's lovely. Good to see it again after the working hiatus.

First comment, yay! I wasn't sure anyone was still reading at this point, to be honest.

I'm so glad you liked it. The characterisation's important to me, so I'm happy that's been noticed.

Hiatus ... what a nice way of describing the time I spend being a lazy cow! No, seriously, the creativity well ran dry and I didn't want to force it.

Thanks for commenting! The epilogue will be up later today (and I'm halfway through some silly, fluffy pieces too, if anyone's interested ...?

I'm interested! Definitely. Silly, fluffy pieces rule!

Uh, I tend to lurk a lot, so probably haven't commented on this fic before. Sorry about that. I really like it and can't wait for the epilogue :-)

Fantastic. The creative muscles seem to be working again now, following their recent cramp, so I hope they'll be up soon.

Actually, I have five pieces in the planning/first draft stage at the moment. A silly piece of fluff and its sequel, a piece about Chameleon Arches, and the sequel to that, and then an angsty epic sort of story that I'm a bit scared of starting because of how hard this one was (and how long it took!) I'll do the other first and see how it goes.

Epilogue later today, as soon as I get it checked, promise.

I know! I'm so sorry! I'm not really doing much else at the moment, but I've written semi-professionally in the past, everything from poetry to political commentary and, hand on heart, this is the hardest thing I've ever written! I think it's hard to work with someone else's characters, sometimes ( ... )

Hee. I'm such a feedback whore.

I'm gonna go and review your fic as soon as I've made the dinner. I'd do it now, but I'll get lynched if there's no tea, and also my laptop battery's about to die. Sorry for not doing before now. Master/Doctor's my thing but I love your fics.

Ohh, I like this! I have a soft spot the size of Belgium for genuine affection between these two, and this was beautiful! *purrs*

Yay! You guys have seriously made my day. I was up until about 4am writing this, and watching the Iowa coverage at the same time, so I wasn't sure it would even make sense, but inspiration takes you at the most unlikely and inconvenient times.

I do need a nap now, though.

I have s similar soft spot. I just get a warm fuzzy feeling when the affection comes out.

I think you'll like the epilogue. No plot, per se, but you'll see how this slightly bizarre relationship's going to function. I'll post it later today.

It's so unusual, but very nice, to see them in a mutual relationship, and while I am completely incapable of writing it I do enjoy a well written piece of fluff from from time to time.
Loved the Master's jealousy at the beginning. The characteriastion, despite the unlikely outcome of this story, was spot-on. Very well done!

I absolutely loved this series. The plot was so cohesive and the characterisation was brilliant!

Wow. Those things are, to me, the ultimate praise of a fanfic. So, thanks!

Posting epilogue now.
