That was really, really well done. I love John's self loathing even as he deliberately, silently endorses the pairing. What is even more fascinating to me is that you could have changed the whole course of the show, and their lives by having Dean live up to this silent commitment but he is already planning on letting Sammy go, and staying with John.

I am both freaked out by how well you added this spin without changing anything, and dismayed by how close they came to maybe having something more than disaster, and the apocalypse. Great job. -slvrbld747

Thank you all so much! I was just meadering through Dean's head. Most of these things, I'm sure he wouldn't be able to articulate at his age and with his emotional growth at this point. So I wanted to say it for him.

The sadness of the show is that so much the trouble happens because of the dysfunction and communication gulfs between the boys and John. and the beauty of the show is that this dysfunction and miscomminication isn't a plot device but deep part of their characters that have lifelong roots. And the writers SHOW them to us. So when Dean makes a decision not to tell something to Sam or to do something for him, even when it's wrong, we at least can understand the decision even as we see them careering towards more disaster.

I always feel for Dean caught between Sam and John.

Loved this story so much. Dean's being torn between what he wants and what he thinks Sam needs and what John expects is just devastatingly beautiful. Your John was heartbreaking.

Thank you! I do have sympathy for John. What a hard life for him, too.
