I'm so frustrated with my original writing. I'm having a really hard time finding the voice, the style, that suits the story best. it seems like certain scenes come out one way, and other another way

Have you done nanowrimo before? I've done it seven times, and finished each time. Does that mean that I have seven really good novels sitting on my hard drive? Absolutely not. But I had so, so much fun, and they've gotten better each time.
If you've never read "No Plot, No Problem" by Chris Baty, the founder of nanowrimo, I highly recommend it. It really can help you get into the spirit of the thing, and free up your mind a little.
My motto as I've gone through has been "It doesn't have to be good, it just has to be done", and it's really helped me push through when I got stuck.
What's your story about? Do you have a profile up on the website? I will totally cheerlead you on!!
If it helps, I'm going to be doing it too and don't have the first clue about what I'm doing!
I'm hoping that stuff like standardising the 'voice' can be done during a second draft once the story is down as I have the same problem of everything sounding too different or worse...too much like me :/
Sometimes I find that, once I get started it kinda gets away from me at some point and starts writing itself so I'm hoping that will happen and the order of events/flashbacks/exposition will sort itself out.
Besides, its 1666 words a day. Doesn't say anything about them being good words or even that they need to be in the right order. I figure November to get them down, December to move them around til they sound nice and make sense.
