Art Post: My Elizabeth Banner for puddinhead, Seasonal Spuffy Header

When thepuddinhead asked if I could make a banner for her new fic My Elizabeth, I jumped at the chance. It took me a while to actually make the banner (procrastination + RL + job + slow computer = taking too long), but the banner and some notes are below the cut.

I also made a header for the contest at seasonal_spuffy and was happy to find that it had been voted the winner

I voted for yours for SS, and your My Elizabeth banner is SO beautiful! I love the shots of Buffy you've chosen and the placement of the mirror, and that pic of WIlliam is sexy as always. There really are so few pictures of JM as William that are even attractive, but that one makes me want to swoon. I wish there were more of William with that hairstyle.

I really like your notes on the artwork. Before joining fandom I had no idea how much work went into creating art- how much colors matter, etc. I still don't understand how any of it works, but I can usually tell good art from bad, and yours are always so phenomenal.

Grr, what the frilly heck is up with LJ? I can't get this thing to post!

LJ is being massively irritating lately. There are several bugs, and not everyone has the same ones or any at all (lucky people!). Frex, I haven't been able to do LJ cuts properly for weeks, which makes posting fic quite frustrating.

I wish there were more pics of JM as William. I think he looks better as William in AtS S5, which is weird because I don't think as Spike he's at his best in that season.

I'm glad the notes are interesting. I will try and add them in when I post art in the future.

I can see why people are moving to Dreamwidth! I've not been around LJ much lately but every time I have something seems to be wrong!

Agreed. I'd say it's largely due to the fact that unlike in most of the BtVS flashback scenes, he's (IIRC) playing vampire!William instead of human!William, and vampire!William has much better hair... He looks younger and more innocent (ironically) than, say, glasses-wearing!William in FFL.

I don't think as Spike he's at his best in that season.

His accent definitely needed work in S5, and he didn't fare well in the office lighting. I think it's fair to blame most of the other inconsistencies on the writing.

I, for one, am thrilled that you are excited about doing artwork again, as it's always a treat to see what you'll come up with! Why is everything you do so gorgeous? Huh? *marvels* I enjoyed your notes, and adore both of these banners.

I wouldn't say no to a "Fire in the Soul" banner, of course. (It's got Spike, Buffy, and Dru in pivotal roles, and Dawn will be important, too.) Here's the first bit:

Thing is, I've got the bug back for making artwork just as I move to a Mac and Photoshop, as opposed to a PC and Paint Shop Pro. It's gonna take me a while to get used to it I think!

However I would love to make a banner for you, can't say for sure when I'd get it done for, but the request is noted! :)

Please, leave the comments in. A few friends of mine are beginning at banners and find this stuff really useful. As for me - I find it really interesting.

I've gushed about the banner to you in emails, and I know I sound over the top, but I just can't say enough how much I adore it (and now my story had better live up to that banner!) The way you captured the duality of Buffy and the feelings of change and storm that the ship in the background evokes. I like that William is in the background, because Buffy will be at the forefront of the story. It's just gorgeous and I seriously can't thank you enough :)

And I'm so glad you like the banner. :) I do love making stuff for this fandom and knowing it's appreciated is a great feeling.
