Wow. I never thought there would be a day that a city in the South would ban smoking.

As for Rights being flushed away before our eyes, that seems like par for the course now.

It'll be weird walking into the Highlander without the haze of smoke. I don't even want to try to imagine what 688 would've looked like without it.

Yup.
I agree totally.
What the fuck is happening?

It's not just smoking, cause I know alot of non smokers are happy about that, it's all our basic human fucking rights slowly being striped away.

I'm skeered to think is whats next.

well, im on the other side of this one. and while I think it will take a little time for people to adjust, all they gotta do is go out the door and smoke? the concept of my clothes not stinking after a night of clubbing is somewhat appealing.

I agree with ya about the stink and probably everything else.
I'm just stuck on both sides of this argument.

Smokers are addicts of a legal drug...
It's hard to understand the draw if you aint one.

i understand addictions to a degree. I have a very addictive personality and that's basically the reason why I stay away from drugs/liquor/etc.

I think its basically like setting up traffic rules. Smoking isnt being banned, but rerouted to an open area where the second hand smoke wont be present for people around the smoker. almost like passing a city ordinance that says "you cant pee on someone's shoe, use the bathroom for that".

if people wanna smoke so bad I dont see a great evil in asking them to walk 10 feet over to the front door? people ask guests at their home to do it all the time.

as you know, I personally dont mind people smoking around me, but others are different, and I can see where they are coming from on that one.

as a former smoker, i think that smokers should get their happy asses outside in places like restraunts if they want a smoke. even in the winter. it's a courtesy thing, since their second hand smoke kind of permeates the room. however, i think that in places like bars and clubs, banning smoking is stupid, since that is part of the whole thing.

I don't smoke at all, never have, but I still think it's horseshit for the gov't to be trying to outlaw what should be a personal choice. (having separate no-smoking sections was fine with me)
As for the other, I don't think it should have been banned, but I do think the companies shouldn't have been allowed to squelch info about the health risks. People should be allowed to make their own choices, but should be damned well able to educate themselves before they do, you know??

I agree completely.

Seeing so many people so addicted and thousands dieing and suffering from the affects left and right (many of my own family memebers) it just makes sense that it be illegal like all other drugs.
But then that could be said also about alcohol and I would be very sad if they took my booze away :(

Regardless, the gov't is taking away our rights every time we turn around.
That is more of the point I was trying to make.

They are, and it's scary. I guess you heard about that bill that would make anyone working in an establishment where someone was caught with drugs liable as well as the owners? It's specifically targeted at rave promoters and dj's but the wording means it could be used anywhere, similar bills already are. =/

and not to harp on it, but a lot of the drugs that are illegal are not so because of ill effects, but because the drug war is a big money business. I personally don't think anything you put into your own body, knowingly, and freely should be illegal. however, if you drive or do something dumb that results in someone else getting hurt, THAT"S what you should get prosecuted for.
I really wish the government would stay out of petty affairs and do something about something useful, like, you know, clean drinking water???

Lost Rights, the destruction of american liberty.
it is by: James Bovard

Maybe, thats why I live in Philly... The rules have been the same for the past 200 years even though they kind of suck... but they've never really back tracked... the crackheads in North Philly would riot if they did something like that.
