Breakdown
On Wednesday night, while I was waiting in Al Zahbi for a Besieged to begin,
adewski2many informed me that there was someone forming a pick-up party for Promyvion-Holla over in Whitegate. So I contacted them, switched to White Mage, and joined the party. We were about half first-timers, so it was a good balance of "need to do this" and "know how to do this".
As luck would have it, as soon as we stepped into Promyvion, we encountered another party about to begin. We asked if they wanted an alliance; they asked how much we were doing tonight. It was so convenient, we couldn't say no, we agreed to go along for all three with them. As a result, getting to the spires was easy as pie. It's pretty cool seeing that many people move as a unit in the game.
Being two parties' worth of people, the experience from the Empty was pretty lame, 8-12 exp apiece. But the funniest thing happened - we took aggro from two weepers; upon the death of the first one, someone in my party dinged; when the second one died, someone in the other party merited. That was pretty awesome.
For all the talk of Holla being difficult, the Wreaker really didn't give us that much trouble. We managed to keep it pretty well locked down with anima, so it was only able to use Binary/Trinary tap once for the whole fight. We did similarly with the Progenerator, only letting it summon an Offspring once (on which I promptly used a Terroanima so it wouldn't bother us).
Unfortunately, after our success in Holla - notorious for being the most difficult - we got cocky facing the Delver, and went with the anima we had leftover. That fight ended in death by Carousel. But we continued on to Dem so we would still have the other party to help us fight our way to the spire. After Dem, it was late, so we agreed to get together the next day to give Mea another try with a full complement of anima.
We weren't able to get our other White Mage back, so we replaced her with a Monk for extra damage. There was a bit of shifting around of other jobs, but otherwise, the party was composed of the same people: the Ninja changed to a Thief, the Warrior changed to a Ninja.
On this run, our anima strategy worked as beautifully as it had for the other two Empty bosses. Delver didn't once use Carousel, only used its Promyvion Brume once, and while it attempted to use Impalement a few times, it only landed once, on the Ranger - which was quickly retaliated against with an Eagle Eye Shot for 310, dropping it.
And after that, we all ended up in Lufaise Meadows. The Ranger switched to Bard, gave us all Mazurka to run to the Tavnazian Safehold, and guided us on the quest for the map of the area.
So yeah, all in all, it was a pretty awesome group to go with. I'm glad I was lucky enough to find them.
