WELCOME TO THE PARKS AND RECREATION NON-CANON COUPLE/RARE-PAIR MEME!

Okay, so numbers_robot and I were discussing Parks, as we do, and the subject of non-canon couples came up. And - at least in my humble opinion - Parks is rife with so much wonderful, wonderful shipping fodder. You might like a little Ben x Chris in your life. How about a taste of Leslie x ( Read more... )

Ben/Donna. I think there was a scene in season 3, it might have been a deleted scene for Indianapolis, when Donna asked Ben to dance and he told her he doesn't dance. How about he says yes instead?

Dancing with Donna, 1/4Donna handed Ben a beer, and he smiled. Miller Lite. Wow-someone actually paid attention to him in a non-"dude who wants to destroy my budget" kind of way. Someone other than Leslie, that was. He never would have guessed that Donna would notice him as more than office furniture, and it felt pretty good ( ... )

Dancing with Donna, 2/4Ben didn't get drunk often, but he was pretty damn sure that the Snake Juice was doing the trick. He was even more sure that he was drunk when his eyes drifted to Donna out on the dance floor, talking to Chris, and he suddenly decided he needed to ask her to dance ( ... )

Dancing with Donna, 3/4

After his marginally successful "Treat-yo-self" day with Tom and Donna, Ben started having lunch with Donna almost once a week.

They still didn't have much in common, but she was a sympathetic ear and seemed to genuinely care about whatever he had to say, no matter how boring she might find it. And he found her stories about her crazy brother and her ongoing exploits with five (or was it six?) different boyfriends a fun diversion from his ongoing loneliness.

After his disastrous evening watching cult-members and visiting abandoned gas stations with Leslie, he headed to Tom's "End of the World" party hoping to meet up with Shauna. She'd managed to take his mind off his self-pity for a few hours, and she might just be the rebound he'd been looking for.

He found Donna instead.

"Why the long face, Wyatt?" she asked.

He shrugged, clutching the beer he'd just picked up at the bar. "I don't know. All this end of the world stuff got me thinking about my ex, again ( ... )

Dancing with Donna, part 4He gave it serious thought for several seconds. And then came to his senses ( ... )

Dancing with Donna, part 5Though Ben had insisted on sharing the news of their relationship as soon as they got back from Thanksgiving, Leslie managed to drag things out until the following Wednesday. Ben knew that if he didn't push a little harder they'd fall back into the "secret dating" trap, and no good would come of that ( ... )

Dancing with Donna, part 6Okay. Things were going well so far. Not that he'd expected her to get jealous or anything. They were just friends. Right? So why did the next sentence feel so hard? "The thing is-" he paused, "it's Leslie ( ... )

You wrote my prompt! I just love their friendship and how you wrote it--I can see Donna, not exactly having feelings for Ben, but caring about him as a friend and also noticing that he's an attractive guy. So this was exactly perfect. Thank you!

I've really loved the few sweet moments of friendship between those two that the show has given us, and based on the dudes Donna brought to the Valentine dance Ben would fit right in with her male harem. So the prompt struck a chord. Thanks for inspiring me to write something a little different. :-)
