"Thy Fearful Symmetry" - Masterpost
Author's Notes: Okay first. WOW, ANOTHER POST-S5 FIC. I can hear you all thinking it. And I really was hesitant, thinking "Do we need another one?" But. I really, really wanted to write road-trip fic (it is my favorite), and I needed a plausible timeline. There was a lot of fixing to do if I set it in or post season six, and it's pretty much the same situation for season seven. I also wanted to write something light-hearted, and while, yeah, there could be AMAZING fic set in either of the proceeding seasons, I figured that it would be easier to just stick it at the end of season five, and since the whole Sam's-soul thing was a catalyst for the story, anyway. Well, it worked out.

♔ Well, interestingly enough, this entire thing started because I wanted to write Dean x Tigerstiel fic. I was inspired by this prompt on the spnkink_meme. It was a request for Dean x Cas rough sex, inspired by the song "Howl" by Florence + the Machine (you can listen/watch here). I actually wrote the first part of this fic, the beginning of Dean's dream, back in April. I hadn't intended to do more with it, but then more and more started coming to me, and it just sort of evolved into this story. So thank you for that, kind prompter.
♔ The title and the line Cas says are both taken from William Blake's poem "The Tyger."
♔ Also to anyone on tumblr who's ever posted about tigerstiel; I encountered the idea maybe... a year ago? I don't remember when exactly, but I immediately fell in love with it.
♔ I named Cameron Barlow after a friend of mine who has incredibly unfortunate luck with women. Because I am a bad, bad person. That story is also quite obviously inspired by the fable of the frog prince.
♔ Demeter's appearance, in my mind, is Brenda Blethyn - for example: pic here.
♔ The inspiration for meeting Demeter and doing the labors of Hercules came from Agatha Christie's collection of labor-of-Hercules inspired short stories, starring detective Hercule Poirot. I thought that was a really cool idea, and I needed a lot of ideas for places to find Castiel's grace, so I just adapted it. (I also recommend the stories to Poirot fans; they're a fun read.)
♔ The necklace Deer Woman wears was inspired by this necklace on etsy. I chose her for the golden hind primarily because the of the deer association, but also because I liked her and I read that her appearance can be a sign of transformation. I thought that fit Cas pretty well considering.
♔ I tried to use only myths I was familiar with, though I did use both monstropedia and wikipedia to supplement my knowledge.
♔ Evan Whelan's appearance is based on a slightly aged-up Jesse Williams. My only real criteria in finding a good face model was "HANDSOME!" and I think I found somebody who fit the bill pretty well.
