Goodbye, Cruel LJ

Apr 19, 2017 22:22

So; this is it.

Livejournal fandom has been shuffling forward zombie-like for years; almost dead but for the few of us who remained after their last bullshit. And I know that most of fandom has already moved on from LJ, but my latest post went up just last week.

I like having a central place to put my fanworks; a place where I know that people are more likely to comment. I don’t make things just for the acknowledgement, but let’s face it, it’s nice.

Livejournal’s new user agreement (that I had to agree with just to make this post and to back up all my stuff) forbids “perform[ing] any other actions contradictory to the laws of the Russian Federation.” From what I can tell, that could mean anything that they want it to, particularly when it comes to LGBTQ content.

This is my limit.

Which doesn’t even go into that fact that this is a completely transparent move to ban political dissent and free speech. That is obviously a lot more important than me and my little fandom blog.

My last real post is for a fanmix about a Russian spy; which feels like an appropriate note to end on. (Except not really; I actually like Dottie.)

If you want to find me elsewhere I am an0ther_dreamer on the AO3, dreamwidth, 8tracks and I may even go crazy and get a tumblr. (I’ve heard that fandom is probably about to leave that now too. Which makes this the perfect time for me to jump on the bandwagon. I will never learn.)

Goodbye.

It was fun while it lasted.

farewell, lj, livejournal, goodbye
