"Back to Firefly" prompt list & claims!
Here are the posted prompts for the "Back to Firefly" prompt/fic challenge. I've organized them roughly into character-specific prompts, pairing/threesome prompts, general crew prompts, and unspecified prompts (some prompts overlap categories, though). There are a total of 137 prompts to choose from!
Part of the purpose of this challenge is to encourage those of us (including me) who aren't writing much Firefly fic these days (oh, the lure of shiny new fandoms) to get back to writing more Firefly & Serenity fic. And if you want to try writing Firefly, here's a chance to give it a go! And of course, the prompts are here to inspire anyone who is in the mood to write some Firefly. Ultimate goal: more shiny fic to read!
Rules:
1. Claim a prompt (or, if you want to claim more than one, go for it) by responding to this post. Please include the prompt number in your claim! Sign-ups end August 14th.
2. The prompts are just a guide. If you need to tweak them to make them work for you, please do.
3. If someone has already claimed the prompt you really want, go ahead and take it as well. I'm not going to get stressed about that (although it would be nice if we all didn't write the same one, lol).
4. Word minimum: 500

Single Character Prompts:
Zoe:
1. What was Zoe like as a kid? How did she decide to join the army?
2. Evil Eye; Zoe; keeping the boys in line.
Mal:
3. How would Mal react on meeting Simon and River's parents after everything that has happened? If they don't know who he is but he figures them out.
4. How did Mal lose his virginity? (I suspect he didn't "lose" it so much as wind up and fastball-pitch it).
5. When Mal walked into Serenity Valley for the second time, he carried someone with him.
6. Mama said there would be days like these; it says Mal to me, but Jayne would work as well, another job gone wrong I imagine.
Regan and Gabriel Tam:
7. Did the Tams Sr. do anything to try to find Simon and River?
8. After the news about Miranda comes out, do Gabriel and Regan Tam do anything to try and find their kids? In fact, have they been doing anything all this time, or simply pretending that they never had kids?
River:
9. Post-movie River fic showing her reactions to the events and to the Simon/Kaylee relationship finally beginning.
10. River's experiences at the Academy. Possibly her interaction with other 'students' etc who went there (assuming she wasn't the only one that was experimented on).
11. River - a childhood scene that shows just how intuitive she was before she went to the Academy.

13. River: An angsty fic about her past experiences, particularly something focusing on the loneliness she feels without Simon with her. Show how she felt when she first left home.

INARA: So you've never pretended to fall.
ZOE: Well, never is a strong word... sometimes it's easier.

INARA: That's the one you marry.
ZOE: Damn right.
So, my challenge is: Write a ficlet about that "one time."
38. Mal/Inara - married and dysfunctional. Because that's always good.
39. Jayne/Inara - "Time no longer had meaning." But without disregarding Inara's feelings for Mal.
40. Mal/Simon - a domestic scene where they have a cliche'd married-couple type argument about nothing in particular, and then make up (maybe with make-up sex!)
41. Simon/Jayne - Jayne is trying to teach Simon how to shoot and actually hit someone.
42. I've been aching for some good clean-cut Mal/Inara post-BDM first-time. I always imagine Mal doing all he can for Inara, since she's always pleasing others. Time for her to get some just for herself.
43. You know that time in Trash when Simon had Jayne paralyzed in the Infirmary? Mm.
44. End of BDM Simon/Kaylee. River doesn't just spy on them.
45. Zoe/River: Post-BDM. River slowly assumes Wash's place on board Serenity, in terms of role in the crew, and in terms of time spent around Zoe. Zoe isn't sure how she feels about this, or what it is River's trying to accomplish when it comes to her poor grieving self. ...River shows her.
46. Zoe/Kaylee: In the early days. Wash bothers Zoe. But Kaylee doesn't! Breezy no-strings-attached smutfic. Or, to make things interesting, same deal, more strings, and include Wash in the smut.
47. Disclaimer: This is a monster prompt. Sorry! :) Mal/Operative: Mal swore he'd kill the Operative if they ever met again...They meet again. But the Operative has changed completely! He's now:
A) the new Book (Mal couldn't possibly kill someone so gentle,
someone so reminiscent of his old friend! Also, this helps him start to resolve the Book's-origins mystery.)
B) a big damn hero himself, if unaware of it (utterly consumed by guilt and angst and convinced he has no shot at redemption, but still striving to bring down the Alliance at all costs.)
C) Mal's biggest fan (assuming Mal's has continued
his struggle against the Alliance--the tape getting out isn't all it takes to bring down people with such good PR, after all!)
D) hot (not so much a change or reformation, as a "Mal notices")
E) any or all of the above. Point being, while perhaps initially desiring of a killing, after seeing who the Operative has become, Mal works through his issues with the guy, via deep and angsty deliberation, confrontation, and, hopefully...sex. :D
48. Cliché: That's not a bald spot, it's a solar panel for a sex machine. Mal tries to prove he's not getting old on an offhand comment from Jayne.
49. Mal/Jayne: Very angsty first-time/get-together fic, preferably with submissive!Jayne. Lots of dialogue and character development leading up to the beginning of their relationship, possibly as the characters deal with the after-effects of what happened in the BDM.
50. Mal/Jayne: "A hero cannot be a hero unless in a heroic world." - Nathaniel Hawthorne.
51. Mal/Jayne, or Mal, Jayne: Inara.
52. A Simon/Tracey outtake scene for The Message. PLEASE. Please oh please. I want this so badly.

54. Simon shoots Mal. But it’s accident, no REALLY, it’s an accident - he swears. (Mal/Simon preferably but Mal, Simon would be okay).
55. A Marriage Law is passed where everyone has to get married. River, Kaylee, Jayne, Zoe, Mal, Simon. Who marries who? How do they decide? What’s the first week like? Etc. (I don’t care about the other pairings except it has to be Mal/Simon).

57. Win hands down (cliche) - Jayne/Kaylee.
58. "All work and no play" - Jayne/Simon. I'd bet it would be Simon who was all work, but maybe Jayne's too focused on making money to notice Simon? ... Doubtful, but maybe.
59. "Colder than a well digger's ass." - Haha this sounds like something Jayne'd say, doesn't it? Jayne/Simon, bc they're awesome.
60. Simon/Inara; the two 'appropriate' ones doing something that's a little less than appropriate.
61. Simon/Wash or Simon/Wash/Zoe; post-War Stories and Simon helping Wash to cope.
62. Ghost by Sting. What happens when you realize after a person's death the distance you've kept from them is because of how much you loved them? I still just love the hurt in that song. Thinking Mal/Zoe here, but go with what fits your fancy.
63. Inara and Mal have a fight...over Zoe's affections!! Post movie. Can be as innocent or as sexual as you see fit.
64. Wash introduces Zoe to his parents and they're not too happy with their son's choice of wife.
65. When Mal hears that Wash is going to propose to Zoe, Mal decides to propose to her first. :-)
66. An apple a day keeps the doctor away - Jayne/River.

90. I'd love to see a fic in which Zoe and Inara interact. Preferably off-ship. Would they talk about Mal? Clothes? The job?

112. "He can talk the leg off a chair." - Wash! I don't like seeing married couples with anyone other than their spouses, but maybe Jayne feels some unexpected affection for the chatty pilot?

114. An episodic-style action/adventure story set Post-BDM. If you want, you can bring in one of the old 'villains' from the series.
115. More interaction between River and Wash, maybe on the Bridge. A quiet conversation or just them playing with the dinosaurs, but some sort of interaction between these two characters, which was sadly lacking from the series.
116. A job goes wrong and two characters of your choice, with previous conflicts or not between them, are stranded somewhere forced to survive on their own. No romance, but some interesting character studies. Cliché? You bet! ;)
117. A Jayne adventure from before joining the crew. Funny, dark, just bad guys being damn bad, or whatever strikes your fancy.
118. A Wash adventure before joining. Something from a comment in the series, or just whatever you come up with. Could be perfect for some comedy or depth of character.
119. In an effort to spruce up the ship, Kaylee takes some of Inara's incense and puts it in the air ducts. Little does she know...it's 'special' incense and it gets the crew high. What wacky fun will ensue?
120. A possible remix of 'Objects in Space' where Jubal and Zoe are related.
