You're right, often, if you wait to do something big, you never get around to doing it. Councilors over here tell kids graduating from high school, "Don't wait to go to college, just do it. Because if you wait, you'll go to work and do other things and you'll never go."
So do it! They'll be other birthdays and other Christmases and you'll have more money later and so forth. If you feel this is something you need to do, which it certainly seems like it, then go for it! ^_^
Okay, so we've never talked or anything but I'm a huuuuuge fan of your graphics and am just in awe of your talent and this post is just something that I can totally relate to

I think you should go for it honey. You're obviously not happy with what you're doing because it isn't what you love. Trust me, I'm in the same boat. I've been working as a Personal Trainer for 4 1/2 years and I've only just realised now (after two years of study in what I REALLY enjoy) that I need to be in performing arts - working in it. I'm not PTing at the moment, I have NO money and have just signed up for a boatload of different casting agencies in the hopes that I will be able to get acting jobs etc

I think you should do what you love. If travelling abroad is part of that, then you should totally go for it! I think it would be an amazing experience. :)
