Ghost

A few days ago a ghost appeared to me.  Actually it was a kitty cat, orphaned.  It came into our yard, but simply would not come anywhere near us.  It was just so beautiful that we decided to leave it some water and tuna.  That night it just sort of hung out at our back door, a sliding screen door.

I still can't handle it, but I managed to get it to eat some treats (mouse!) out of my hand. Bad move on my part, little kitty bit me. Not hard, but yeah. If Ghost's not socialized, it going to be a lot harder steering it away from that kind of behavior. I need to find ways to condition it without freaking it out more than it is. You might want to try just leaving the treats near you without actually holding them in your hand. Doing the same with the food dish might not be a bad idea either...then Ghost will learn to associate being near you with food (which, until s/he tolerates affection, is probably the strongest "good" association s/he can make at this point). It might take a while, but eventually s/he will be less anxious to skitter off when the food isn't there. If you're worried about weight factors, use bits of food, not just treats. If Ghost is only being fed once a day, food-pieces at other times are close enough to "treat" to work ( ... )

Very cool. You've had cats before, so you know that it's all about taking your time, esp. with a mistrustful cat who is learning that humans can be good as well as bad. But congratulations!
