Tribal Fusion Faire

Well, it was a strange one.

The weather was really terrible.  Well, for California that is.  It was raining and raining pretty hard for this part of the country.  Mind you, the soil here is clay and can't really accept a lot of rain and we are just not that good at driving in it.  Weather, the economy and the holidays all made up for a really low ( Read more... )

Thank you for the compliment. It's nice to get some feedback on that because I was a little dry on ideas when I came up with it but I put a TON of energy into it given the physical issues I've been having lately, so I hope it paid off. i really enjoyed your piece and also wanted to take your Invocation/Evocation workshop, like i said, but scheduling got wonky.

Shopping/sales seemed sluggish overall this past weekend. Cynthia and I are eyeing the blue pantaloons you were selling for the future! LOved the color.

Hm, perhaps the opportunity will pop up for the intensive thingy when it's supposed to happen?

Also, I saw Am Cab-by-looking people but a lot of them either worse fusiony costumes or used fusiony music to try to be more fusion, I think? I also noticed that Spanish/Flamenco fusion was big this year.

Why not break the training up into whatever is manageable and teach it as an ongoing workshop at one fair over however long it takes. (3 -4 years?) By the end you may only have a couple of folks left, , but if its not economically viable at that point maybe you can do it off hours during the festival or in a hotel room or even the lobby. At least you get to have the experience of teaching it, which reinforces your work with it as well. Or maybe pitch it to a local studio and let them promote it for the most part. It sounds like something you really want to do, so I bet there is a way to do it.

Doing workshops at a festival, that's not sponsored by the festival is um... frowned upon. I don't know how many producers would go for something like that. I think it needs to be independent of the festival circuit.

But maybe if I can work out something viable, people coming in to the festival can make some time before or after the festival to work on this.

I would be very interested in continuing the conversation of dance and ritual and performance with you. It's where my thoughts go all the time!
I could see some sort of distance training where part of it was feedback via taped practices and performances along with monthly assignments. I have a dance mate who has been doing this type of training with a tribal fusion teacher in north carolina (she calls it mentoring) and I am amazed at how much my friend has grown as a dancer because of it. I believe they also have phone convos from time to time to check in and see each other in person twice a year. Seems like alot, but also like an amazing opportunity if one were to find the right teacher and willing to commit.

If you have some time, I would really love it if you could email me your thoughts on this. Maybe after the holidays? Did you get a chance to view the moon last night?

I will after this weekend, which will also give me a chance to chat up the dancers I spoke of and get more info on how they do it....
The moon was powerful!

I always dug TFF. It was always a fun gig when I did it. :( I bet Danny performed tho. I liked having the best seat in the house for his shows. :)

In regards to your workshops: No one can want it for you more than you. So, if you are gunning for your runaway project, "make it work". (I should be punished for the pun I shed! oooooh!) ;P

Bottom line: find the energy to be involved in ALL aspects of it and don't be lackadaisical. Let others handle the reins and the let-down is pretty much guaranteed. Lots of experience here. :(

Good luck and tell pSyentist I sez "e=MC/Y0!" and give gh0st a butt-skritch fer me. ;)
