A little trouble with the baby

Sep 21, 2008 06:29

The past few weeks, the wee one has been crying a heck load more than usual. We had a doctors appointment on Friday, and he gave us his professional opinion. She's hungry. :/ Apparently my body (who had problems giving birth to her in the first place) just doesn't produce enough milk anymore. I'm not completely surprised by this, as I haven't ( Read more... )

Feeding solid foods... Its like playing catch with food. :)

The lack of milk production is strange, there are some women that continue to breast feed their children till _5yrs of age_. Though, its never stated whether the quantity was the same or not.

Hope things get better.

My hubby seems to think my lack of milk production is because I don't drink enough liquid during the day. I'm going to try and make it a point (once again, like I did when I was pregnant) to drink at least a liter and a half per day and work my way up. We'll see if anything happens then. I've never gotten the "Huge Mom Boobs" that most pregnant women get though. I didn't even go up a bra size, just got more fitting into the size that I wore already.

I was thinking about not enough hydration too, but I figured a) you would have already thought of that, and b) you've said you are annoyed with suggestions vs just being understanding.

No "Huge Mom Boobs"? Poor Thom. *joking* Seriously though, from what I have heard, some women more than double in size, and some women have no noticeable change in size. (I feel sorry for any DDD+ women who are fall into the double in size group; They likely go broke trying to find a bra) Medical sources often cite that breast size does not directly correlate to milk production.

As you may remember from a chat we had a long time ago, water is important for bodily functions in general. You urine should be very pale and fairly translucent. Dark urine is often (I'm sure there are other reasons) an indication of being dehydrated. ... Hmm... I did it again, more suggestion/talking than just understanding. :- |

Just alittle bump in the road- of course you're meant to be a mother. I'm surprised the dr didn't recommend a little cereal mixed with formula, spoon fed. Also, could she be theething????

I've had that same thought myself, as she drools all the time. I would think though that the doctor would have said something if he thought that could be a possibility, and the only thing he said at all was that I wasn't producing enough milk. I guess he thought I was going to get upset by this, the way he spoke to me about it. I am more frustrated than anything else, because I can't provide for my kid.

Lots of women don't produce enough milk- I have plenty of friends who gave nursing the old college try- but it didn't work out. So you're not alone in that regard. I would try supplementing with a little cereal, you could even mix it with your milk. My friend's twins grew so fast that she was doing this at about 12 weeks. At least she was able to get some sleep, as the cereal seemed to hold them for a lot longer. It's also possible that she's teething. My kids started at 3 mos and I would spend lots of time rubbing their gums so they would STOP CRYING! Very frustrating indeed. Try freezing one of those jelly filled teething rings and see if that soothes her a little. I'm sure you keep hearing that this will pass, but it really does!
