From a NYT article about the immunities given to Blackwater employees during the investigation into the killing of Iraqi civilians:

"Americans are immune from Iraqi law under a directive signed by the United States occupation authority in 2003 that has not been repealed by the Iraqi Parliament."

it's so rad that we can totally declare ourselves immune.

I hope that works next time I get arrested. "no, no, officer, you don't understand. I gave myself immunity from your 'public intoxication' laws, and you never took it away from me directly, so, uh, guess you have no recourse here, right?"
