It's pretty much the only example of a successfully revived language--really one of the only examples of language planning working at all, as far as I know, which makes it even more fascinating. Modern Hebrew has some really fabulous onomatopoeias and neologisms... ask me

My name is Mariana and I hope it isn't inappropriate to send you a message here instead of e-mailing you. A friend of mine that I work with talk me about the day of silence that will be going on Wednesday. I would really like to participate! She, unfortunately, did not tell me that I had to sign up beforehand. My boyfriend and I both went to the Union today to try to pick up shirts, but we weren't on the list. :[ Would it be at all possible to get us two shirts? We would really really like to participate in the day of silence. Unfortunately, we both have very early class (then class for the rest of the day) on Wednesday, so do you think we could get shirts on Tuesday night? Thank you so much! :]

That won't be a problem at all; we've got some extras, and we'd love for you and your boyfriend to participate. If you come by today from 12-2 or 3-7 there'll be someone in the office; if they're not sure they're allowed to give you shirts because you're not signed up, tell them Elana said it was okay (dear god, I feel like a pretentious asshat typing that) and it should be fine.
We're breaking the silence with a group scream at 7pm in the SAC plaza, and celebrating afterwards with dinner, a poetry slam at 7:30, and a drag show at 9 in the University Cafe. Hope to see you there :)
