So I'm still up studying genetics (and yeah, I know cowhockey is probably going to yell at me for failing at having a reasonable sleep pattern. Phhhhbt. It'll restabilize in time for the weekend, promise), and it suddenly occurred to me ( Read more... )

A frameshift mutation is a base addition or deletion that changes the reading frame--since bases are read in codons of three, a 1-base addition or deletion can completely change the amino acid sequence. Similarly, if I'd accidentally bubbled the answer to question 3 in the space for question 2 and kept on going like that, I would've bombed. Fortunately, I didn't!

That was always my worst fear on scantrons! I know three people who have done that -- and two of them were teachers telling us horror stories about their youth XD One of them did it on an LSAT or something -- the medical one, you know the one I'm talking about.

It's 1.5+ years after you posted this, but I did find it amusing, so I'll let you know anyway.

(Bio major here. I don't think my genetics tests were ever scantrons though.)
