I think, as far as technological skills go, that the only difference between your anacrucis and your computer-illiterate coworker/relative/roommate is that when I get a link to a video in my email, I just delete it after trying to follow it, and don't give another thought to the problem that all I can see is a counter and a little sliding bar.

You need a newer version of flash. That was what I needed. The audio worked without it, but video did not.

i figured it was something like that, but i wasn't that worried about it.

In my life, I have yet to see the video that was worth polluting my registry with another plugin for.
