Is everyone alright?

I just heard about the 35W bridge collapse in Minneapolis. Are you guys okay? Are your friends and family okay?
Edit: Okay, a quick check of my friends lists reveals that most everyone has checked in. Has anyone heard from EV? From Emily? Gut? Susie? Katie and Dave? Andrea? Jason? Best wishes to all of you and your loved ones...

Come on now really folks. What are the odds one of your close friends was on the bridge?

Then furthermore, what are the odds that if one of your friends was on the bridge that you wouldn't hear about it in a timely fashion without asking everyone?

And finally, what are the odds that a friend of yours was on the bridge and after finding out in a timely fashion you could actually do anything at all to make any difference that you wouldn't be able to do if you found out later?

Dude, we're primates. We like to eat insects out of each other's hair. Why does this upset you?

I mean, you'd have a point if this were just about finding out information, but it's also about petting each other and saying "I'm glad you're okay."

It irks me when others take issue with use of personal journals. Yes, its public -- but it's still a journal. I think you made logical use of it as a place to express concern. It's not so much that you believed those people would have been harmed somehow, but that the events made you worry about them and want to express that affection. It's perfectly logical...so the concept of someone demeaning you for your emotional reaction seems asinine to me. I think it's one of those normal human reactions to connect an event with the people you know who are in proximity.

Well... to be honest, 35W goes to my part of town, and although I knew neither my brother nor my father would be on it during rush hour, I was thinking that Lem or Andrea might be. And then again, I'm not sure where some of my friends work these days; it also goes near the U of MN and other places. So I was actually concerned, however unlikely it was that they were one of the affected 100 or so out of the 3 million people in the Twin Cities.

I think Kris has a point about not blocking important communications channels during a crisis. I'm just of the opinion that LJ is the perfect place for irrational and unnecessary social bonding. :)

the day lj becomes an 'important communication channel' is the day that social interaction as we know it hits an all-time low =)

heh, it's like saying you can get informative news from fox news or something...

*cringe*

Your post makes me happy. I've been accused of being too brash many times... now I feel I can hand the crown over to someone more deserving. :)

w00t!

PS: I'm alright too. :P
