why I love "'Till I Collapse"

One of the reasons I love Eminem's "Till I Collapse", which has a sort of plain rhythm and isn't immediately appealing, exactly, is the way he answers questions that no one asked. Namely: "that's why you see me walk around like nothin's botherin me," and "that's why I'm clever when I put together every verse." Of course, these are exactly the kinds ( Read more... )

I'd also like to point out that the idea that you have no control over your emotions isn't irresponsible, per se, because it says nothing of what you choose to do with your emotions. Do you punch a punching bag or a police officer? That's where the responsibility lies.

That being said, one can control emotion, and like the development of any other personal skill honing your control over emotion strengthens you and helps you achieve enlightenment.

Yeah, but the Greek idea is that you're a vessel for some force outside you, and so you don't really control what happens when you act under its influence. Their idea of responsibility, however, was that even if a "God" made you do it, you were still "responsible", so it all worked out - for them.

Of course I agree that there's a difference between having an emotion and acting on it, and generally the honor/valor lies in the quality of the latter step.

Yeah, this explains nothing, sorry. I guess if I wanted to explain why I liked rap in general, it would be something like, "because the rhymes are so tight!" I also find the ethics interesting, like I find the ethics in the Iliad interesting.

Are you friends with ssaiscps? He was my senior year roommate in college, and liked rap for what I felt were very similar reasons. He introduced me to Dr. Octogon.

I've theorized that I like rock and Nada likes rap because I like bolding and she likes italics.

No, but I've admired his work from a distance.

I don't think this post explains at all why I like rap. I was just explaining why I like a particular song (because it has funny lines and is a paragon of its genre), then explaining what rap is.
