Need a word

Thankfully essay is going, but I'm stuck trying to find a an appropriate word: all i can come up with is dimension/feature or even aspect the bit below, but none of them seem quite right. I've included the preceding sentence for context any help would much appreciated.

'aspect' is quite good, in a rather routine way. If you want something less mundane there's 'flavour', 'colour', 'dynamic', 'face', or if you want to shade into under-cutting it there's 'façade', 'appearance', 'image'. Towards the pretentious end of exotic there's 'paradigm', 'gestalt', 'melange', 'confluence' and so on into the metaphors of cookery.

thanks, i've been given a few options by email too and i think 'paradigm' is the winner!
