It was a gloomy Friday when Jaejoong woke up at his usual 6.45 and as usual took a shower admiring his flawless features in the mirror, got dressed in one of his grey suits and left for work. Groaning he locked his apartment door, how he didn’t want to go to work today. He had a gut feeling that his office phone as well as his boss is going to drive him mad. Then again, something felt odd this morning. Maybe it was the fact that he forgot is coffee before he left or that the elevator wasn’t working, again. What was the point of living in the most expensive apartment block in town with spectacular views, electronic locks in the door and a soft red carpet on the corridor floor when half of the time the stupid elevator wasn't working?! Blond businessman sighed while walking down the stairs from his goddamned 6th floor.
Suddenly, a loud squeak nearly threw him of the stairs. What the hell? Jaejoong took his next steps carefully and quietly. What he saw was most unexpected - right there in front of him, on a plush red carpet sat a man, correction a gorgeous man. He was dressed in white tank top and dark blue shorts with flip-flops lazily hanging off his feet. Chocolate brown hair gave the impression that it’s owner just got out of bed which would be quite logical at 7.30 in the morning Jaejoong, you dummy. His handsome face was laced with worry, his eyes directed towards something or rather someone sitting between his outstretched legs. Businessman followed the gaze finding the cutest sight he could ever imagine; little boy not older than 3 was chewing on his blue oversized t-shirt, his back resting on the man’s stomach legs spread in the same position as the other. His little feet were clad in red socks and cute white runners. It didn’t take a genius to realize they were related; the same almond eyes, noses and cute lips. As they say like father like son Jaejoong caught himself chuckling.
‘Hello’ he stopped in his tracks dazzled by the melodious voice.
‘Um... Hello’ he nodded politely at the man who nodded as well. The boy stayed silent, staring at Jaejoong.
‘Moonbin, what did appa tell you. You say ‘hello’ when you meet someone.’ The man whispered gently to his son but the boy didn’t react one bit. Letting go of his shirt he shamelessly gaped. ‘Sorry about that. I guess he’s a bit shy.’ He laughed awkwardly.
‘No, it’s fine’ Jaejoong smiled - he couldn’t help it. ‘Are you ok?’ Yeah, Jaejoong why do you have to be a busybody all of a sudden?
‘We are fine!’ another laugh. ‘ We’re just playing a game, right Moonbin?’ no answer. The boy seemed to be under a spell and blonde was quite sure the little one didn’t blink once. Cute!!
‘Oh... ok. Well see you around.’ He turned and started to walk away towards the underground garage entrance. Just when he was about to reach the handle he heard something strange. If Jaejoong didn’t know better he would think it was a stomach growl. Seconds later, his assumptions were confirmed by two simple words.
‘Appa, hungry’ said a small whiny voice.
‘Shh baby... I know...’ a soft whisper replied back.
‘You sure you are ok?’ before he could stop himself he turned around walking back to the strange duo.
‘Em... well... actually...’ brunette lowered his eyes biting his lips, a faint blush graced his cheeks.
‘Hungry...’ the boy was on a verge of tears.
‘Hey Moonbin. Do you like cookies?’ Jaejoong lowered himself to the child’s level and fished two chocolate-chip cookies he was going to have with his coffee later. Looking at the little one’s father for permission, he gave the wrapped treat to the 3-year-old.
‘Moonbin what do you have to say now?’ father asked patiently but the boy was too busy munching on the cookie to notice anything. The man sighed. ‘Thank you’ he nodded not meeting businessman’s eyes.
‘No problem.’ He smiled. ‘Your son is really cute.’
‘Yeah...’ brunette’s voice wasn’t quite convincing.
‘Well I should go.’ He waved.
‘Bye.’ The man waved back then took his son’s hand and waved with it, the boy still too occupied with the treat. Blonde smiled - he was doing it a lot today, it felt weird.
It had been years since he felt that warm, fuzzy sensation in his heart. By the time he reached his car the feeling was already gone leaving him empty and cold. something in him snapped, he paused, spun around and walked back. Carefully peeking through the crack in the door he saw Moonbin standing up and throwing chocolate-chips aiming at his father’s open mouth.
‘Goooaaaallllll’ little one squealed jumping while the man laughed wholeheartedly hugging him next. Jaejoong sighed, wasn’t there anything like this his life had in store for him? Apparently not.
‘Appa, home!’ boy whined, obviously getting bored of the game they played.
‘I know baby. Listen we need to wait a bit more ok?’ large hands rubbed the boy’s arms.
‘Appa, home’ tears nearly rolled down the puffy cheeks.
‘Um... excuse me...’ words escaped his lips before he thought them through. ‘Are you waiting for someone?’ he walked into the corridor again yearning for the warmth to occupy his lonely heart again.
‘Well... kind of... you see...’
‘Appa, home!’ Moonbin pointed at the businessman not taking his wet gaze off his father.
‘No Moonbin. We have our own home.’ Brunette smiled gently patting boy’s head.
‘Do you live here?’ it was a long shot and it sounded quite ridiculous but businessman couldn’t find any other explanation.
‘Yeah, I...We went to throw the garbage and I... I locked out my keys...’ the man said defeated ‘...and my mobile...’ he added hugging the boy close to his chest.
‘Oh... em... I have the janitor’s number somewhere’ blonde played with his cell phone. ‘Damn... sorry, I’m sure I have it in my apartment. You can call him off my phone... if you want.’ He finished uncertain.
‘Really? I mean, we don’t want to disturb you.’
‘No, it’s fine. Honestly!’ Jaejoong found himself ridiculously flustered at the thought of being rejected.
‘Ok. Moonbin, we’re going to go to uncle...’
‘Jaejoong’ he filled in.
‘...uncle Jaejoong’s home for a moment ok? You have to behave.’ Boy nodded vigorously.
‘Jung Yunho.’ The man stood up and extended his hand towards the blonde.
‘K-Kim Jaejoong.’ He stuttered as he saw the man in all his glory. Yunho was taller and darker, his frame was much larger than Jaejoong suspected and as much as he hated to admit, he was a tiny bit intimidated by the sight in front of him. He nearly gulped when he saw strong sun kissed arms hoisting up giggling and squeaking boy effortlessly to put him up on his shoulders.
‘Say hello to uncle Jaejoong.’ A shy ‘hello’ followed on.
‘Hi. Come on. I have more cookies at home.’ He heard himself chirp after regaining from the daze.

‘Here we are.’
‘No way!’ brunette looked shocked.
‘What?’
‘I live across the hall...’ there was a short silence followed by a chuckle. ‘It’s weird that we haven’t met before.’ Businessman just nodded.
‘Come in, make yourself at home.’
‘I wouldn’t say that if I were you.’ Before Jaejoong could say anything more little rascal was already on the floor racing to the living room. ‘Moonbin! Take off your shoes!! Aish... Sorry about that.’ Yunho smiled apologetically. ‘Uncle Jaejoong will be angry!’ he tried once more but there was no power that could stop this tiny devil.
‘Leave him be’ businessman laughed. ‘This place hasn’t been so lively in a long time.’ He added with a longing in his voice. ‘There’s the phone.’
***
‘WHAT?! You’ve gotta be kidding me! This is outrageous! No of course I’m not happy!’ it was already fifteen minutes since Yunho began shouting down the phone, clearly not getting anywhere with his inquiry. Jaejoong just stared utterly shocked. Suddenly, he felt a tight squeeze on his left knee, looking down he saw two tiny arms hugging his leg and a mop of black strands glued to the side of his thigh.
‘Sh... Binnie come here.’ He picked the boy up and held him close trying to comfort the little scared soul.
‘DAMN! I can’t believe this! Oh...’ Jaejoong turned towards the voice to see a dumbfolded man staring at him.
‘S-sorry...’ he handed over the child to his father completely embarrassed.
‘No, I’m sorry. Moonbin, honey, appa didn’t want t scare you.’ Blonde watched father placing soft kisses on boy’s nose and forehead.
‘What happened?’
‘After all that verification crap I found out the lock master is out till Monday. And of course only he has the master key so we’re locked out for next three days... God I’m such an idiot.’ Brunette sighed painfully.
‘Don’t be too harsh on yourself.’ Jaejoong tried to comfort him. He looked at his watch and cursed mentally. ‘Look I have to go to the office now...’
‘Yeah, we’re off as well. Thanks for everything.’ Taller man cut in walking towards the door.
‘No! You can stay here till I come back and we can think of something.’
‘A-are you sure?’ the spark has once again graced the man’s eyes. ‘I mean I don’t want to be a pain... You and your partner...’
‘I live alone.’ This time Jaejoong cut in. ‘You have nowhere to stay and the weather isn’t great to go out so... there’s the kitchen I’ll be back at 6.’ He rushed outside before he could regret his decision.

He had a hard time concentrating on his work. His thoughts were constantly on the handsome stranger, well a neighbour staying at his apartment. Once again, he marvelled on how tall and fit his frame was and how wonderfully his voice sounded, the smell of his deodorant and his just-out-of-bed look. He made a decision. Putting all his paperwork away he closed down his PC - he was going home. I felt so good to say that.

A loud sound of a breaking glass welcomed him as he opened the door at only 12 o’clock. He froze thinking if it really was a wise move to allow strangers into his home.
‘Moonbin! I told you no running. Uncle Jaejoong will be so angry with you!’ a familiar voice tore through his ears.
‘A-appa-a.’ and a familiar cry.
‘No, no hugging! You have been a bad boy mister and appa is very angry.’ A heartbreaking wail bounced off the walls.
‘So-sorry-y, a-appa-a’
‘No I told you no hugs! I bet this vase cost a fortune...’ Yunho sighed
‘Actually about 500000 won.’ Jaejoong relied offhandedly starling the man with his presence.
‘Oh... Jaejoong-shii. I’m so sorry. I will repay you. I’m ever so sorry.’ Father bowed low muttering apologies - funniest thing was that his son was trying to do the same. Businessman found it so cute.
‘It’s ok.’ He chuckled at the sight. ‘It was a present from a friend. It didn’t fit to this place anyway but I never had the heart to throw it away.’
‘U-uncle Jie- Jiedioong Moonbin sorry-y.’ Little one cried.
‘It’s ok honey.’ Blonde kneeled down and patted little devil’s head, which just made him cry harder. Yunho picked up his son on hugged him.
‘It’s ok. You will be careful next time right? See uncle Jaejoong isn’t mad.’ He rocked him gently. ‘Don’t cry shh...’
Then the strangest thing happened; the boy turned to face Jaejoong and extended his arms begging to be hugged. Blonde sent Yunho quite confused look just to get a gentle smile and a simple nod in return. Soon the little demon angel was in his arms snuggling hungrily. It felt so good to hold the tiny rascal close to his heart. He closed his eyes and enjoyed the warm feeling. They stood like that without moving for who knows how long. When Moonbin calmed down and started to wriggle around the world seemed to come back to life again. Opening his eyes Jaejoong's stare met a gentle almond eyes looking straight into his soul and he felt his cheeks heat up for the second time that day.
‘You ok Binnie?’ nod. ‘Do you want a cookie?’ nod. ‘Well then let’s get one.’ he went to the kitchen with the boy still in his arms and took out a sweet treat from the jar. ‘There you go. Now I want you to go to the bedroom while I’ll clean up ok?’ he said with great concern while setting Moonbin on the floor. Last thing he needed was a piece of glass in little ones feet. Two seconds later, he heard a squeak of joy as the miniature devil launched himself onto the bed.
‘Jaejoong -shii I’m so sorry. Please, if there is anything I can do.’
‘Oh stop, it’s ok. Tea? Coffee?’
‘No it’s not ok. I feel obliged to compensate you. Tea please, green.’
Minutes later, both men were sitting at a kitchen table talking and laughing. Pieces of broken vase were swept to the corner completely forgotten as well as the honorifics. Jaejoong found out that Yunho was divorced for over two years now. His ex-wife had passed away six months ago due to illness, making a huge impact on the boy, who just started to speak again. He told him how hard was it to get Moonbin back to normal and how happy he was to hear the little one’s laughter. He briefly mentioned about his job, saying he was a commissioned ‘scribe’ as he called it. Businessman found it so easy to open up to this person. Without a second thought he talked about his work as an accountant and about his failed, three year relationship which left him broken, of course he skilfully omitted the fact he was gay. He shared how he didn’t believe that there is still hope for him at the horrific age of 30 - and to his surprise it turned out that Yunho was only few days younger. This started a silly fight over the usage of ‘hyung’, since there was an age difference. Just when brunette was trying to convince Jaejoong that there is always hope and that he will find the woman of his dreams little demon made his presence known.
‘Appa, book!’ he run to his father holding two objects in his hands. To Jaejoong’s horror they were romantic novels, to be precise gay romantic novels. ‘Appa your book!’ kid placed both items on Yunho’s lap for him to see. Blonde wished the earth would open and swallow him. How did that little devil kid got his hands on those! Oh... right, they were on a nights stand Jaejoong you dummy! Now there was no way this gorgeous guy wouldn’t flee out the door. He’d rather sleep on a corridor than stay one more minute with a gay guy. Nice going Jaejoong... Businessman sighed.
‘How... did you...’ Yunho asked in disbelief.
‘I... I can explain... look my sister... aish...’ he buried his face in his hands. There was no point in lying now. ‘They are m-my favourite books...’ he whispered.
‘Well I’m flattered’ Jaejoong looked up in confusion. ‘Which one do you like more?’
‘Checkmate.’ He answered taken aback by the whole situation.
‘Ah... story about an office affair between boss and his male secretary, full of drama and rated scenes... I enjoyed writing it.’ He saw Yunho smile to himself and then it hit him.
‘J-Jung Yunho?! THE Jung Yunho!?’ his hands dropped to the table. The other one just laughed nodding. ‘I... I can’t believe this! You...’
‘Me...’
‘You... you are the best romance novelist I have ever read!’ Jaejoong was bubbling like a fanboy he was. There before him sat one of the most famous ‘gay romance’ writers and if rumours were right he was gay himself.
‘I am?’ he laughed wholeheartedly.
‘I can’t believe this!’ his cheeks were red again.
‘Appa kiss!’ little boy tugged on his father’s sleeve. Yunho broke the eye contact to pull his son on his lap and kiss his cheek with an obscene sound making the boy giggle. ‘No! Appa, kiss!’ little finger pointed at still gaping blonde.
Jaejoong felt his hand being taken from the surface of the table and brought to the other’s warm lips. He felt like he was about to get a heart attack when writer placed a kiss on each of his knuckles looking straight into his eyes. He didn’t think he still has it in him to feel like a teenage boy on his first date but he did and he smiled covering his lips. He felt dizzy, light-headed, stupid and in love... yeah in love.
The day was indeed odd but Jaejoong thought it couldn’t possibly be any better, that is until Yunho sat his son on the table and leaned over to catch his lips into a soft and sweet kiss with lots of giggling and ‘ew’ sounds in the background made by the devil that brought them together.
***
When the lock master came on Tuesday he found himself helping two love-birds moving toys, books and other stuff to Jaejoong’s apartment - just because it had a better view. Yunho didn’t mind as long as he could see that beautiful smile on his lovers face over and over again.
