The start was every bit as much of a zoo as last time I ran it, but this time (with the benefit of experience), I started as close to the start line as I could worm my way, so the only walkers I had to play dodge-ems with were the pillocks who decided to skip the crowds by starting around the first corner (putting them in front of _all_ the runners, and the inline skaters, and generally making themselves a hazard to navigation).
The weather was about as perfect as you could hope for for a running event - clear blue sky, bright sunshine, but initially very cool at ground level, so you could apply your own personal climate control by running in or out of the shade.
It would appear that I need to recalibrate my footpod/heartrate monitor - it's out by about 5%. Which isn't actually a bad thing, since it thought I was going 5% slower than I was.
Net result; 54:20 finish time for the 12km race, which, since my target time was 60 minutes, and my 'heh, yeah right' stretch goal was 55 minutes, I am exceedingly pleased with.
Split times
0-6km 28:00
6-12km 26:20
Or in three km blocks: 14:10, 28:00, 41:25 , 54:20 = 14:10, 13:50, 13:25, 12:55
So nice negative splits the whole way.
To sum up; Squeee - very happy.
