There are so many good reasons to do this! We're doing the every-other-week plan, so it ends up being only $50 per month for the service. There is also an initial start-up fee of $20, but I think that sort of pays for itself after a while not having to shop at WF. You don't get to select what goes into a share, though, so there are still occasional items to be bought at the store, but not much. I do like the surprise of finding out what they packed, and the challenge of making meals using what ended up in a share.
Oh how I miss getting my CSA shares! The CSA I belonged to didn't use plastic bags, though. They just dropped everything into the box and to keep cost down, they asked that we return the boxes every week when we would go in for our next week's share. They also grew extra plants and provided us with them at the start of the season, like herbs, peppers, tomatoes. They also had extra produce that was free for the taking, so I always loaded up one of my canvas grocery bags that I keep in the car with tons of extra produce. I had my own garden and grew tons of stuff, but they grew a lot of heirloom produce that I didn't grow, so it worked out well.
For your kumquats, do you have a juicer? You could juice them with other things, masking the taste you don't like so much about that fruit.
