Sleep

I think I'm starting to get used to the interesting style of sleep that having a new baby requires. I implemented a new strategy and so far it seems to be working well. My big problem was that Ansel would wake up extremely early, sometime between 5 and 7 in the morning, and I would be so groggy that I could not sanely deal with changing diapers, ( Read more... )

oh, that photo is precious (and i never use that word)! he's so beautiful.

i'm glad the sleeping arrangement is working well. my teddy absolutely wore me out. i should've had him sleep near me instead of in his crib.

I know I'm legally required to swoon over any picture of my own boy ;)
But this is might be my all time favorite picture of him.

The pediatrician seems to prefer we keep him in the co-sleeper instead of letting him sleep in our bed. But my sister and I slept curled up next to mom, one on each side, until I was at least five years old, so I have a really hard time thinking that it might not be a good idea. I don't recall having any problems at all transitioning to my own bed when the time came. Even though I realize the main concern is that he will get rolled over or tangled in a blanket or sheet, it doesn't seem at all likely to me.

oh, he is lovely Anna :) :)

Your sleep strategy sounds excellent, what matters is that you & baby (and Mac I suppose, heh heh) are getting enough rest to function. I pretty much sucked at moving sleeping babies back from my bed to the bassinet or crib. I think that the earlier you set up a bedtime routine w/positive associations, the better.

I loved your description of his loud sleeping habits. Chris always teased me about going to Sam too quickly when he was just a noisy sleeper. Half the time if you wait a few minutes, the sounds would either resolve into "Mom, I'm awake!" or Sam would fall back to sleep. He still does that, and he's two. (and we still have him in his crib for only 3 hours a night LOL) If you do ever want him in his own sleep space for the entire night when he's older, I am probably not the person to ask on how to do it. ;)

Did you ever read Happiest Baby on the Block? (Karp) Super, super helpful book.

I find it very comforting to have him tucked right next to me at night. I feel like I can respond to anything he might need immediately.

I haven't read that book, thanks for the tip! I'm going to see if the university library has it.

What a sweet photo. You almost sound like a pro - you know exactly what to do with him. Ansel is so lucky.

It's really nice of you to say that. I definitely don't feel like an old pro when he's inconsolable. I guess there is only so much a parent can do, even with the best intentions.

Let me also be one to say just how adorable that picture picture is! He's precious!!!

Is it just me, or does he seem to have that same glint in his eye that I've seen in some of your own pictures? ;-)

He's so beautiful, Anna!
