I remember sitting with my folks in front of our little black and white console tv, with the round screen, and watching his reporting on the moon landing. I can still *almost* hear what he said but I can hear his voice echoing through the completely still living room.

That was an amazing night, wasn't it? I remember having to be nudged several times to open my eyes and look at the blurry, shadowy pictures from the TV screen, so past my bedtime it was and so dulcet and comforting Cronkite's voice was as well!

he was truly remarkable, and faithful to the truth of a matter (the 'facts')as well as the obvious implications. He did not 'spin' the news for anybody's agenda.

I remember that he was rendered speechless by emotions on only 2 occasions: this (the assassination of JFK) and the other, was on the Apollo 11 moon landing.

Goodspeed, indeed Walter.
