Still hopelessly addicted to DAO but that`s understandable since this has been a pretty shifty month so far and DAO, as pathetic as it might sound, has become somewhat of a bright spot. Cold, lousy weather, *having a cold*, my sinus acting up, family drama - January`s been kicking my ass

I miss snarky outlets for those of us who don't think the problem with the dark ritual is that your beloved puppy strays but rather that you put your selfish pathetic needs before the needs of the world. Perhaps I just don't understand LURVE.
(Last night I spared Loghain, did the ritual - it is more heartbreaking to convince him than Alistair because Loghain pleads with you not to make him do it and I am such a softie when it comes to angsty anti-villains with a death wish - and went off to rebuild the order with Zevran, Leliana and Loghain. Perfect selfish ending.)

My views have changed so much since I completed a playthrough - I now think Loghain is one of the most interesting characters in the game, adore Zevran, Sten and Leliana and find Alistair and Morrigan very immature (though I do like them).
And yeah, the ritual is ultimately selfish (and there`s just something about it and the issue of consent that bothers me) and I wish both the Alistair fangirls and Morrigan fanboys would stop trying to make it canon.

Tell me about it! The first playthrough was very standard routine, tra la la until I reached Landsmeet and was disgusted by the ZOMG LOGHAIN MUST DIE!!!!111 plot. It bothers me because there's no real discussion about it in the large LJ corner of the fandom. It's not an alternative to spare him. At all. He must die, by your hand or Alistair's. Mercy is not important. Nor is different perspectives and understanding other people's motives. And the endless whining about being dumped and not being queen and not being able to have babies and gaaaaaah.
Have you read the books? I got them for christmas and while they're pretty low-quality writing, they provide very interesting character studies. My love for Loghain hit the roof by the end of The Stolen Throne.
