Femmephobia in lesbian and dyke communities recently and am excited to hear your femme rantings.
Actually, I was talking to a friend last night and she had a fascinating perspective on birch and femme which places queens in the birch category! Why? Because their response to something which is different or "ugly" about themselves, their bodies, or their fashion is to just own it and challenge those around them to find out beautiful. My friend claimed that femmes took more of a moulding themselves to what others find attractive kind of position. I have yet to decide if this is a deep insight into the nature of what can be two difficult to differentiate presentations or an example of femmephobia.

Hmmmm....
It is hard to differentiate. I think women who identify as femme, as opposed to just feminine seeming women, are doing what they want and find attractive. It might just happen to be what others find attractive or it might not. A fair amount of femmes have tatts or are alternative looking in some way which would not fall under mainstream conceptions of attractive.
