After talking extensively with a friend from Pakistan, I realize not all Arab countries have the same view of women, even if the laws resemble each other. To cite an example, I'm from Saudi Arabia, where women are not allowed to drive cars. My best friend from my childhood is half Saudi Arabian and half Swedish. The only things I caught on about the cultural differences when comparing my dad to hers, was that her dad (and their house) always smelled so delicious. >> As adults (we still keep in touch, gotta love Facebook) we don't really discuss her heritage or her dad (he turned out to be somewhat of a douche) but I've always been interested.

I'm with you there. If anything, women are objectified in the west. So damn much. All the time.
