That's an excellent quote! And yes, fandom totally draws on that desire to tell and retell and reshape our favorite stories, until they form a sort of backbone to our way of thinking.

Yes, there's that collective ownership by fans of the source story and of all the stories, vids, art and the rest that are spun out of it. And the way that stories in one fandom, similar and based on the same backbone, are always special and unique, filtered through the voice and the experiences of the story-teller.
