So we're thinking of going to Ireland at the end of February, and I'm just wondering if any of you lovely people have ever been there? :D
( Read more... )
Ah, yes, I heard about those! How many will you be going to? :D
Sadly we're going to be coming back just before that though (we're taking advantage of a work holiday here on the 18th, so I think we get back the 24th?) :(
I was just there for a week with my parents over the summer. Because I was with them we did a bus tour, but I imagine renting a car will be a much nicer experience. There's not much traffic (at least outside of major cities) and the views as you go up the coast are really beautiful!
We went to the Rock of Cashel, the Ring of Kerry, Dublin, Killarney, Blarney Castle, Bunratty Castle, and the Cliffs of Moher. I think these are some of the main touristy things to do, but they really are all amazing! Oh, we also went to the Skellig experience which really made me want to visit the Skellig Islands. Although now that I think about it those might not be the best choice for a winter trip. XD
Awesome - thanks so much for the recs! I've got a couple of guidebooks coming in the mail, so I'll definitely check out all those places and see what we can fit in.
And I'm hoping the car is a good way to do it? We did the whole road trip thing in Wales two years ago, and it was a ton of fun, so I'm hoping this will work out just as well! ^_^
Never been, but I've been advised to avoid St. Patrick's day, so...don't delay the trip? Otherwise, it's supposed to be gorgeous with great hiking. The car idea actually sounds pretty fantastic to me!
(Standard reminder that they use the Euro, there's a border between North Ireland and the rest and you can take a ferry ride to Wales. Ok, the last one is a little random.)
Well, we went ahead and booked the tickets, and it's going to be something like... I think the 16th to the 24th, or something? But yeah, I definitely didn't want ot be dealing with St. Patties Day crowds...
(And ferries to Wales are never random! ...Well, except when they are, I guess? :D Thanks for the tips though - I appreciate it!)
I've been to Dublin for two days and a half, and all I have to say is that it's largely enough to visit the city. :) If you can spend a day there, I suggest that you use the Hop & Off Bus, it stops at the "big" things to see.
Mm, okay, that's good to know. We were planning to spend a few days in Dublin, but I wasn't quite sure how long was long enough, so... Yes, very helpful! ♥
I wanted to let you know too, that your package arrived! <333 I was away this weekend and it came just before I left, so I'm sorry I didn't let you know right away! But thank you so much! <3 I am now fully prepared for the zombie apocalypse, and this is a very important thing! ;) The little notebook and pin are really cute, too~ *hugs* Thank you!! ^__^
Oh, great! I was about to ask you about the package. ^^ I thought it was important to know how to deal with a zombie apocalypse, the greatest threat of our days. :p

Also, I'd recommend wikitravel if you haven't checked it out yet. Not exhaustive, but a nice place to browse for ideas.
(Ferries to Wales forever!)
