I am currently in an ongoing struggle with the combination lock that used to be on my little locker in the bathroom. It's not so much a battle of strength as a battle of wits.
It all started a couple nights ago when I went to take a shower. My shampoo and such are in that little bathroom locker, so, as usual, I went to unlock the lock so I could get my stuff out. Now, I've been opening this lock at least twice a day every single day (except on weekends and breaks) since the beginning of September, but all of a sudden I totally blanked and could NOT REMEMBER THE COMB for the life of me. I knew there were even numbers involved, but really, that fact did hardly anything to narrow the possibilities. I tried several options and probably spent a good 5-7 minutes trying numbers that I thought looked vaguely familiar. Finally, I cracked the code. Of course, since I had tried *SO* many combinations in that time, I soon forgot which one had been the correct answer again. Yesterday morning and night I had similar experiences, where I struggled in vain to open my lock for a few minutes before finally succeeding, but each time I finally did succeed I had no idea what numbers I had used to make it work. So last night I finally decided that I was sick of other girls watching me fight with my lock (I probably looked like I was trying to break into someone else's locker...) and I just brought the lock back here in to my dorm room to try and figure out the combination once and for all. So there is currently no lock on my locker in the bathroom, but really, who would want to steal my toothbrush?
Anyway, I have figured out the last number, simply because when I last succeeded in opening the lock (last night) I looked down and saw what number it had ended on. But I still can't figure out the first two numbers, and I've been trying on and off all day long to see if I can figure them out. I don't understand this at ALL. I mean, this is like forgetting my address or phone number or something. I successfully opened the lock multiple times a day almost every day for the last 7 months, and now, all of a sudden, I have absolutely no idea what the combination is anymore. It makes me wonder if I have some sort of serious memory problem. It's like I had a stroke or something, and the combination-knowing part of my brain just died. Baaaaah.
You know you've hit a pathetic low in your life when an inanimate object can outsmart you.
Perhaps I just need sleep. Lots and lots of sleep.
