I called them a 'he' too, and my father laughed at me! They are a them, its band. Damn these groups with their singular names!

I'm a big BJH fan and have been for many years. The problem with picking an album to start off with is that the band moved through several phases so there is not one definitive album. Basically their first era was 1968-73 (largely folky and orchestral rock) of which the pick is generally considered to be "Once Again". Then followed a more proggy era 74-79 with stong albums such as Everyone is Everybody Else, and LIVE (both 1974), Octoberon and Gone to Earth. In 79 keyboard player Woolly Wolstenholme left and the band veered in a pop/commercial direction (which most fans disliked) - but which reaped enormous sales and eurpoean stadium tour sell-outs. The best of this era was their swansong, 1997s River of Dreams.

Today the two main songwriters, Les Holroyd and John Lees tour and record separately, both using versions of the BJH name. Holroyd enjoys the 80s pop style, while Lees prefers to relive the bands 1970s heyday.

cheers
Gavin
