Got back from Adelaide last night, which disappointingly proved no warmer than here but at least it was very peaceful and green and it was good to catch up with family and friends. Even though I did worry my parents by not coming home on Monday night. They knew I was catching up with my liberal friend, so I was a bit mystified that they would worry ( Read more... )

... and of course they wouldn't even know if you were out all night in Melbourne. But I suppose that once you come under the parental roof, you come under the parental tracking-and-worrying system. Old habits dying hard, as they do...

One of my grandparents used to go on about how you didn't want to go to such-and-such street in the middle of Adelaide because of all the dangerous types who hung around there. Actually going to the street in question was rather a let-down in comparison - the most "unsavory" aspect I could find was a large video games arcade. I imagine his info was both years out of date and informed by talk-back radio (he had very poor eyesight so did not read).

... but where you could you possibly be all night in Adelaide? And is that the wonderful libeal friend you introduced me to? That may in itself present the answer to question 1!!!
It is funny how parents do not worry until they expect you to walk in the door! After living away from home I went travelling with my folks who after losing contact with me sometime around 2 in the morning and me not arriving back at the hotel til 5.30, decided in the space of those three hours that there would be 'no more children'!!! Because we cause too much worry ... not because they'd been considering it!

So yes, with you. And yes, why do they no longer think we are wise enough to differentiate the trouble you want to find and that which you simply stumble over?!?!?

Glad you got to go home though ... going to try that myself end of next month! :))
