So Thea and I move to the parts of the US that are pretty flood-prone, and you guys get it. That makes sense.

We think the dog has kennel cough, but it's a mild case. Just coughs when she's excited.

so what do you do with a dog that has a cough? Did you purchase her at a store or kennel? Seems like they would have to pay for you having her treated, or something.
Don't get to cocky about flooding...hurricane season will be coming soon...
You'll like this one...some guy in Grand Rapids stole some knives from a store, put them in his pants and when he was running away, tripped...

We got her from a store, but she was in a shelter and they were bringing her out to the store to see if someone would pick her up or something. It's not too bad, really-- mild cases don't get treated, it looks like. And she's getting better, she only coughs in the morning, it seems. I'm just happy that we've gotten her to not be afraid of the box that we stick her in when we go to work... (They suggested we do that for a month or so because shelter dogs feel like they're being abandoned when you leave them and so they do things like tear up the house)

When we were first married and lived in a duplex in Mississippi, our neighbors had a dog that got into the BR while they were gone and TP'd the whole house! We were amazed that he could do it without tearing it off the roll. I suppose you will have to take the dog for shots at some point, so the vet will know if she needs something for her cough. Also, dogs get heart worm which I think can make them cough...and they will kill a dog...so be sure she does get to the vet at some point

Good thing your house is waaaay up there...

unless the wall falls down because of the water... Would insurance cover that?

insurance wouldn't cover it, but this won't affect the wall. The wall is move apt to come down when the ground thaws in the spring...and we won't talk about that....
Is Lugh around today?

He is on the porch - he and scathach were howling at each other. I didn't see if he came in or not, so I don't think he did. He might come in later, though, but he has definitely become an outside cat again.

Should I be insulted?

no, he probably is freaked out about having people around all the time again...especially the kids. I am just glad he is around and being fed.
I sent Elliot's other gifts today, should be there by Sat.
Went to the coffee shop in Centreville and visited your espresso machine*
