My 2011 Music Charts

Feb 24, 2012 21:32

It's late, but I'm going to do it anyway, in no small part because I'll enjoy reading it again next year. Even if it will be a bugger to find on my LJ calendar... Here's what I had to say last year; the same caveats apply to 2011.

Same as last year, first my top 10 listened artists with (playcount) and [overall ranking since 2005]
  1. Editors (329) [24]
  2. Shihad (219) [2]
  3. The Sisters of Mercy (209) [1]
  4. Rammstein (208) [4]
  5. Frightened Rabbit (201) [25]
  6. The Killers (193) [3]
  7. Dropkick Murphys (191) [58]
  8. The Cars (153) [42]
  9. Flogging Molly (147) [47]
  10. VNV Nation (136) [9]
The other artists with over 100 scobbles were: Muse (124) [30], Mumford & Sons 122 [86], Bloc Party (103) [37], Tool (102) [22], The Nova Echo (102) [10], Joy Division (100) [5], then another 23 had between 99 and 50 scrobbles. That makes 16 over 100 and 39 over 50, compared to 14 over 100 and 48 over 50 last year. The top 10 were more tightly bunched this year too. Artists featuring in my overall top 10 not appearing here are Carter USM [6], Lordi [7] and Oomph! [8]. Generally the top 10 artists received fewer scrobbles in 2011 than 2010, which I think I would have guessed. I spent more time working on campus in 2011 than in 2010 and I only scrobble on my home laptop.

My top 10 listened albums with (playcount) and [overall ranking since 2005]:
  1. Frightened Rabbit - The Midnight Organ Fight (116) [12]
  2. Mumford & Sons - Sigh No More (116) [62]
  3. Editors - (B-sides) (113) [53]
  4. Shihad - Ignite (113) [21]
  5. The Cars - Just What I Needed: The Cars Anthology (2 of 2) (81) [50]
  6. Frightened Rabbit - The Winter of Mixed Drinks (80) [78]
  7. Coldplay - X&Y (78) [3]
  8. The Nova Echo - The Nova Echo (76) [1]
  9. Editors - In This Light and on This Evening (74) [=152]
  10. MashUp-Germany - Mash Mob (73) [=152]
The only continuity between the album lists of 2010 and 2011 is The Nova Echo's eponymous album, now reduced to a normal level. The scrobble counts are higher across the board, and more tightly grouped. X&Y came out of a long hiatus because I was powering out my prospectus at the end of 2011, and it was one of the big soundtracks to the completion of my MA thesis. The rest of the list are albums that I discovered last year. TheSixtyOne had less impact on my listening habits in 2011, there were no big finds.

My list of top tracks is dominated by Frightened Rabbit and Mumford & Sons, comprising 17 of the top 20. The other four were Editors 'Eat Raw Meats = Blood Drool', The Nova Echo 'Achilles', and Shihad 'Sleepeater'.

I don't think there are any purchases on the immediate horizon, but I note that I haven't yet bought Manslaughterer.
