My search for a new apartment has got me thinking about gentrification...

What is considered "gentrification"? Are you complicit in gentrification if you're, say, a white person moving into a cheap low income black neighborhood? Or only if you have lotsa money and you move into the new housing developments in that neighborhood that replaced the project houses? How about if you're not "white" but light-skinned? What if you're dark-skinned but look like an artsy bohemian-type (assuming the new condo developments and shops in the neighborhood were trying to cater to and attract artists)?

How does race and economics and appearance factor into all of this?

[Shit, there are so many affordably-priced and conveniently located apartments in the most gentrified part of town :( ]
