Disclaimer- I don't own any of the characters, but the plot is mine.

“If you value anything you have received in this life, you’ll stand aside, foolish boy!” The words echoed across the skyscraper’s roof. This was the end of the citywide chase. Predator had finally cornered his prey.

"Where is your anger now, Takuya?" the shadow-shrouded obscured demon spat.
"You'd better listen, Takuyacchi. This is just the way things work." Takuya's companion reasoned. Takuya turned to Miku, a sad smile turning his lips. “There’s no way I’m letting them take you…change you into one of them.” Tears glistened in the angel’s eyes, as he advanced towards the demon. “Miku, I’m going to save you. You know where to go, right?”
Miku’s eyes widened as he realized what Takuya meant to do. The demon watched their exchange with interest.
“Wait! Takuya!” Miku cried, grabbing Takuya’s arm and holding him back. “Isn’t there another way? There has to be! Takuya…”

“No.” The reply contained such finality that Miku let go of Takuya’s arm. “I see. I’ll do what’s necessary, then.”
At this, Takuya turned his face to the gloomy white sky. He in whispered a strange, otherworldly language. His tone began softly, but increased in volume as he continued to chant. The air around him rippled and shimmered with azure light. Miku and the demon drew back when they felt the energy shift. It was a frightening and intimidating force. When Takuya could no longer support the pressure, he charged at the demon. As he dashed forth, the intensity of his aura cracked the cement of the roof with a noise akin to thunder. The world functioned in slow motion for a moment, and then the light condensed into a solid beam that struck the demon square in the chest. The noise it created was as loud as a collapsing building, and the pavement shook beneath their feet.

The demon flew backward, hissing in pain. Takuya ran after it, but the demon jumped to his feet once more and began to dash to the other side of the rooftop, towards Miku. Takuya followed in pursuit, and the role of hunter and hunted switch for a brief moment. White feathered wings materialized at his back as he kept running, increasing his speed considerably. He reached the demon before it got to Miku and struck its back forcefully to send it reeling forward. It slid forward on the concrete and turned over to face Takuya, but the redhead was too fast for the demon to strike back. Takuya’s hand pressed over the demon’s chest, and there was a blast of light around Takuya’s palm. The demon disintegrated in a swirling cloud of darkness. At this, Takuya keeled backward, lying on his back and breathing heavily.

Angels aren’t allowed to fight, for it is a sin.

“Takuya!” Miku yelled immediately, dashing over to where he had collapsed. ‘That was stupid! Really, really stupid of you,” he scolded, but his expression was tender and concerned. Takuya looked up at the blond sadly. “Yes, but you’re safe now. You know where to go, right? You know what to do?”

“Yes. Yes, I do.”

“Good… I don’t have much time left, I think… I have no idea where I’ll go or what’ll become of me, but I promise to you, Miku. I’ll see you again and we’ll be together, right? I promise.”

Miku nodded. “Takuya, you’re starting to look crumbly…” he whispered, grabbing hold of the other’s hand.

“I am, huh?” the redhead whispered, closing his eyes. His body began to loose color, turning a lifeless shade of grey. Miku watched sullenly, clutching Takuya’s hand with both of his own.

“Miku, I love you. You know that, right?”

“Yes.” Miku choked. He wasn’t going to cry. He couldn’t. It was almost unreal that Takuya was just simply fading away before him, when moments ago he was a powerful and formidable warrior. Usually, he was delicate, elegant and sweet. Between them, Miku was usually the strong one, being a shoulder to cry on when Takuya need it. But now Miku needed Takuya, who was rapidly graying before his eyes.

Eventually, Takuya’s breathing stilled and he stared blankly at the darkening sky. His wings folded around himself and then he burst into a pile of white feathers. True thunder sounded close by and rain began to fall as Miku cried, holding a single feather to his chest.

Takuya had fallen.

It was dark; so pitch black that it was almost painful. Takuya’s eyelids felt heavy and refused to move. The feeling slowly returned to Takuya’s limbs. He was warm, not uncomfortably warm, but his entire body felt leaden and sore as if he had received a beating straight to his bones, though his back hurt more than everything else. He attempted to shift slightly to get more comfortable, and discovered he was lying on something soft. A bed? He moved his fingers. Probably. His eyes still refused to open and his head was beginning to pound. He felt trapped, cornered into darkness. A soft cry left his lips. Soon after, Takuya thought he heard somebody move, and he could sense them bending over to examine him.

“Help…” he cried softly. The person didn’t help; instead they just started prodding Takuya’s shoulder a few times.

“Are you awake?” A man’s voice.

“Yes.” Takuya replied. “But… I can’t open my eyes!”

Laughter. “That’s weird.”

“It’s not funny! I hate this!” Takuya groaned, trying to move his arms. They were reluctant, and very shaky, but Takuya managed to move them and rub his eyes a few times. He pulled them open quickly and winced. It was too bright. Eventually, he got used to the light, and took a quick look around. He was in someone’s bed, low to the floor. There was a television on the shelf, surrounded by anime figurines, DVDs and video game cases. A single, oddly placed, small window that was close to the ceiling. There were several posters on the wood-paneled walls from bands and various anime. In general, the room had a sort of cozy atmosphere. Beside Takuya was a man that appeared to be in his early 20’s or so, with black hair and a few blond streaks. His hair covered one of his eyes, and his lip was pierced once in the corner. He looked sort of suspicious to Takuya.

“What… how… you?’ Takuya stammered, staring blankly at him. The man laughed

“I’m Kanon. It’s sort of strange, but I found you collapsed outside of the bar upstairs two days ago. It was really shocking.” Kanon laughed nervously. “Where exactly do you live? You should be getting home soon. People are probably missing you.”

Takuya knew he had to lie, but in his entire afterlife he’d never done such a thing since it was looked down upon.

“Well, um… My name is Takuya. I don’t really have a home anymore or people that’ll miss me.” That was true of course. Takuya couldn’t think of anything else to say though, so he remained silent. At some point he knew he was going to have to mention Miku. Takuya hoped that Miku would be waiting for him as promised. He hadn’t a clue what city he had woken up in, though.

“Aw. I see. Do you want to talk about it, or is it personal?”

“Very personal I’m afraid. I’m sorry to be such a trouble. But uh…. Where exactly am I?”

“Oh, it’s alright! Well, above us is a bar called The Blue Moon, in Shibuya. And above that is where the owner stays. I pay the rent by working here at night and I usually work at Sex Pot Revenge during the day, but I’ve been taking off to watch over you. I was really worried that I was going to have to call a doctor, but Yuuki, my boss, said that you’d be alright. Down here was originally a storage area, but I managed to make it livable.” Kanon explained.

“You’ve been missing work! I’m so sorry!” Takuya wailed, sitting up suddenly. “That’s really selfish of me! Ah-“ Takuya felt a wave of dizziness wash over of him and he held his head in his hands.

“It’s not like you could help it, I was just being a good person. Aha. You really should eat something!” Kanon said. He exited the bedroom and Takuya could hear him moving around in what must have been the kitchen; banging pots and pans around and opening drawers. He was grateful that Miku placed him near such a caring person, but he still didn’t know what had become of him after his death as an angel. It was something his master never told him. Dealing with demons and sin was a taboo subject. Takuya lay back down, feeling faint. What was a “Sex Pot Revenge” anyways? It sounded weird. And Kanon was sort of odd himself, with his piercing and edgy hairstyle. His clothes were a bit weird too. Of course Takuya had been able to watch the world change below him, but all of this was new and bizarre to him. He hoped he wouldn’t stand out now.. Takuya longed to get up and explore Kanon’s flat. Takuya groaned and buried his face into the pillow he was using. Now he wished he had never woken up. Thing had just gotten ten times more confusing. His head was bubbling with questions and confusion. His body felt strange too; more substantial and grounded than before.

Takuya turned over when he heard the door opening and saw Kanon balancing a tray. Kanon stared at the tray with wide eyes and walked forward slowly, willing himself not to tip it over. Takuya found himself smiling at the sight. “Do you need any help?” he offered.

“No, no, no, no! I’ve got it! Don’t worry. Almost there!” Kanon replied. “Here. It’s nothing fancy, but I just hope you’re like everyone else and eat this sort of thing.”

Kanon had made two cups of instant ramen, a small bag of chips and some cold leftover rice. It really was nothing special, but Takuya smiled and thanked him all the same.

“Remember to eat slowly.” Kanon warned. He sat next to Takuya, grabbed a remote from next to the bed and turned on the TV. The sounds of a game show filled the room while Takuya ate. Kanon seemed more interested in watching Takuya than the television. Takuya didn’t really notice, and if he did, he didn’t care. He finished one bowl of instant ramen and moved on to the rice, devouring it without a word.

“So, how did you end up outside here?”

Takuya stared at Kanon, chopsticks half-way to his mouth. “I don’t really remember.” He began eating again.

“Ah. I see. That’s strange, isn’t it? It must have been bad.” Kanon mused.

“Yeah. I got in a fight…” Takuya sighed. “And I don’t fight, so…”

“Ha. Yeah. You do have an awful lot of bruises on you.”

“What? Really?” Takuya looked down. He didn’t remember wearing this! “Did you…?”

“Yeah. I figured it’s a cliché thing to do when you find someone knocked out on the street.” Kanon laughed. Takuya looked a bit flushed.

“Well, no. Yuuki said we should try to figure out how you got like that, so… We pretty much figured it out from the bruises. You got ruffed up bad.”

“Oh. Well, I feel sort of violated now.” Takuya huffed, and went back to eating.

“It’s alright. You’ve got a nice little body there.” Kanon teased. Takuya practically choked on what he was eating and Kanon chuckled.

Takuya looked annoyed, but kept eating. He was really starting to look forward to reuniting with Miku, but he had a feeling that if he tried to stand up now, his legs would give out beneath him. As long as Kanon would help him, he’d be better in no time. He still felt guilty for intruding, but Kanon was right. He couldn’t help that. All he could do was be grateful.

“Listen, in the fight I was separated with my friend and he promised he’d meet me somewhere. Obviously, I can’t do that today, but I’m just letting you know. It’s really, really important to me.” Takuya said when he had finished eating. Kanon had gone back to watching the TV. He didn’t really seem to care for what was on though.

“Alright. I got that.” He said without turning to look at Takuya. “My bar shift starts in two hours, by the way. What do you want to do till then?”

"I don't know. I'm tired and confused and I am worried about my friend. What do you think I should do?"

Kanon was flipping through channels, a bit of a frown crossing his face. " Well I don't know either. Cry about it? Like you said, there's really nothing you can do until you get better. "

"You're not nice." Takuya muttered, turning away from Kanon with a stifled groan. Kanon laughed quietly in reply.
"Nothing I can do 'bout that, kid."

Kanon began to get ready an hour before his shift started. By then, the sun had set and the light from the high window had dimmed and gone out. They had been playing Tekken 5 to pass the time. Takuya lost ever single round, hesitant to fight back. Kanon would taunt him every time he lost and Takuya would flush with shame. This went on until Kanon check his digital clock and swore so loud, Takuya started scolding him. And then Kanon started getting ready for the night. Takuya was stunned by the amount of clothes flying around the room. Kanon was muttering to himself and digging through his closet like a madman. Only when Kanon began to change clothes right in front of him, did Takuya turn away.

"Hey Mr. Prude, I want your opinion on how I look." Kanon called out. Takuya peeked in Kanon's direction and his eyes widened "That's really disturbing." he whispered. Kanon laughed loudly at this.
"What's wrong with you? You get in a fight and dye your hair a girly shade of red, but you're afraid of punk clothes? What the hell?"
Takuya gasped for words, but he just opened and closed his mouth like a land-stranded fish. "Red?" he said finally.. "My hair's blond. It's always been blond."
"And you've got amnesia too, apparently. Well, I'm going up to the club. I'll be back at about one AM, so don't bother staying up for me. I like you better when you're sleeping and quiet. You're so god damn saintly, it sickens me."

Takuya just stared at Kanon's back as he disappeared from sight. His head reeling, he didn't know what to think.

Author's Note: This is the one I feel the most iffy about. It's silly now, but you can except it to get serious. There's lots of plot to be uncovered. Haha

Beta's Note: Fffff. "CRY ABOUT IT." Oh ha. Good advice. He'll feel better for sure. It's a nice dynamic they've got going there.
