That's a good one (Banks). I haven't read her, but she's getting to be a big name.

Hey girl - I thought I'd talked about her to you...she's been around a number of years (L.A. Banks), and writes for St. Martin's Press - has a vampire huntress multi-book thing going - and recently sold the first book 'Minion" for movie rights.

Her 13th book in the series just came out, called (of course) Thirteenth. She's a big time world builder and definitely is multi-cultural.

PS. She's the special guest at this year's phauxcon which you can't make:(...and you know I'm going to be talking to her - big time!

Hope all is well.

While I'm at it, can you all recommend a mystery or sf/fantasy or romance written by a Hispanic or Asian writer?

Jorge Luis Borges and Gabriel Garcia Marquez are the first names to pop into my mind when I think about Hispanic sf/fantasy writers. Also, there's Angelica Gorodischer. As for Asian writers, Kazuo Ishiguro comes to mind. I have also heard that Ted Chiang is very good, though I've not read him yet.

Ishiguro's Never Leave Me has the best -tone- of any book I've read lately. Beautifully written. Thanks. I can use that!

I've read several mysteries by Tess Gerritsen. She is Chinese-American, but the ones I read all took place in the USA. Hope it helps, or at least gives you a good read.

Oh, right--- that's a good suggestion. I've read a couple of her thrillers.

I'm not entirely sure this would be something you are looking for but they are translations of original material.

These however might be what you're looking for as well as these .

Oh, good, thanks. I do want some Asian. There's a lot of Asian literary fiction, but this is supposed to be popular fiction.
