Summary: Isaac has a hard time trying to not react against his Alpha training.
It should be easy, he idolizes Derek, not only because his wolf wants to please his alpha, but because Isaac himself wants to trust a least one adult in his life. It’s not easy. Every time Derek pushes, drops, contorts his body and breaks his bones, Isaac’s mind pulls him in two directions: one is for him to hit Derek, full force and get away, the other, well the other wants him to break the bones, wants to feel the pain.
Rationally he knows Derek is trying to teach him how to survive and the pain should make him stop and strategize a better way to attack Derek and pull him down, make him submit and perhaps have the chance to break the alpha’s bones or, you know, the possible kill if he ever has to fight another person than Scott. The problem is, his instincts tell to submit to his alpha, his masochistic tendencies tell him to let the pain come and a third part of him keeps seeing and hearing his father punishing him, slapping or throwing things at the same time he knows he should learn to defend himself, escaping his dad and Derek, that is acting as an enemy right now.
So his mind is, in fact, pulled by three forces that don’t seem to work well together and Isaac feels his head on the verge of exploding and splattering around the old train wagon. Derek is there, watching him hold his arm and Isaac knows he can feel the pain, but maybe Derek can smell his confusion too, because his eyes are worried instead of angry.
Strong hands reach for his arm and Isaac let’s it, Derek touch makes the wolf happy and if his head wasn’t a mess, even his human side would be happy with the comforting touch. When he looks up, sensing Derek wants eye contact, the pain makes him roar: Derek wanted him distracted to put the bone back in place.
In and out, the air forces itself into his lungs and he can see his skin healing while his heart beats slower and slower. Derek doesn’t say anything, just keeps holding his arm, letting Isaac bask in the touch. People don’t realise, but Derek can be insightful when he wants and is almost like he knows Isaac would be too embarrassed to speak. His attitude now is the opposite of his training persona and Isaac appreciates.
“When the full moon comes, you will need an anchor, don’t let it be pain, anger is horrible enough, pain is worst. When I break your bones is not for you to feel good, or pleased, if you let it be, other wolves will control you and even I won’t be able to call you.” Isaac looks back from the floor he wanted nothing more than stare while this conversation takes place and he sees red eyes staring at him.
“I will try.” He doesn’t promise and Derek doesn’t say a word as he finally releases Isaac’s arm and gets up.
His mind is still doing tricks, pulling him to one and the other side, but seeing Derek move not far, but only enough to give Isaac some space he wishes things get better; he almost can see it. It maybe a guess or he is terribly wrong and things will only get worse, but maybe some of it will be a least ok and Isaac learned a long time ago he can live with small favors.
