I got a bunch of recommendations from people, but we ended up choosing Town and Country Pediatrics (on Clybourn, kinda by the PBK). My doctor recommended choosing a practice that was convenient for us to get to, since you go so often when they are little. That tipped the balance to them (all the other docs were down at the NW campus). We didn't interview, though. I just didn't have any idea what I would ask about. Besides, it's not like you're obligated to use the same ped forever if you don't like the first one!
Thanks for the tip. That really wouldn't be too far for me either, just trying to decide which way I want to go in the city or away from the city ya know.
I agree with Chick - convience weighs heavily into it. We goto a practice in the children's pavillion at Lutheran General. We LOVE our ped (we interviewed him while I was pg with E). He's our age and has a little girl 6 months younger than E and is expecting his second in the winter... Can't remember what hood you live in? If you are out our way, I would highly recommend him.
Re: interviewing Peds - we just met and walked through his general thoughts on breastfeeding, shots, discipline, etc. We sort of crunchy (breastfeeding and made all of E's baby food) - and sort of relaxed about pretty much everything doctor related. But, we support getting vaccinations. Guess its sort of a feel thing.
Amanda, Lutheran is not too far from me and I would rather going with someone who is highly recommended. Can I have his name to see if he is in my insurance plan??
Sorry it took me so long to get back.... We go to the Yackman Children's Pavillion on the east side of Lutheran General.
Dr. Frank Belmonte. He's probably in his mid to late 30's. Really nice. As I mentioned - has a daughter that is just over a year and is expecting his second baby this winter. He's pro-breastfeeding, but totally open to formula feeding too (he was super supportive when I needed to wean Ellie). Think he's pro-vaccinations (we did ours with the schedule). He always seems like he has time for us (so many doctors don't do that). Plus, I feel like my kids will grow up knowing him.
We had a couple of concerns about Ellie since her birth and he seems like he has the right mix of "wait and see" or "check it out". I don't want someone that always wants you to come in....but he is always attentive.
He'll meet with you to do a pregnancy consultation.
The practice - I've been so/so about one of the other drs in the practice. Another I really liked. It is totally a gut thing....
Amanda, thank you so much for all the info. I am definitely going to see if he is in our insurance plan. I love the idea of a younger doctor and "growing up" together. Thanks again!!!! Have a great holiday weekend.
