I'm having some trouble with my core resolution mechanic, specifically the balance between ease of use and achieving my design goals, so I'm polling the interwebnet.
I don't mind. Give me dice, I roll them, you tell me what it means.
Then, given my usual luck, I wind up dangling upside down and have to pretend to be drunk / shoot the wall directly in front of me / other catastrophe...
Thanks, I'm certainly seeing a pattern emerging here although someone on RPG.net has presented an interesting alternative:
Skills as percentages, roll under to succeed just like BRP but your margin of success is the value of the highest d10 from the tens and units dice. Gives a better chance of a high margin as skill levels improve. I'm investigating the effects of this at the moment.
Well, it's like this: I want an odd number of dice in the final set, I think a d6 is boring and d10s give me too great a range*. I'd like to find a use for d12s though...
Now I'm wondering if I should just go for a d6 pool given the actual curve will be the same shape whatever die size I go for. Trouble is, without funky dice I just don't feel like I'm role playing!
I think I also need to take into account that I am a moderate collector of dice so I have 34 d8s in my box of 433 dice whereas I'll bet most folks only have a dozen or so dice in total.

Can I come and play again?

*I consider ranges greater than ~20 too fiddly.
