Two of my citrus trees are flowering - the Eureka lemon, and the Washington navel orange. I've taken pictures!
First, my Meyer lemon:
A sad little lemon, it's still a bit scrawny-looking. It will be awhile before it fully recovers from its adventure with foot rot. However, you can see a lot of fluffy new growth on one of the major branches (the other is still somewhat bare) and that's very encouraging.
Also, in the background of this pic are my spider plants.
The Eureka lemon. Eureka lemons are your common, basic California lemon that you buy in the grocery store; however, I don't like lemon trees for the fruit. I have no real use for any lemon, let alone some kind of unique and special lemon. And this tree has proven to be pretty hardy. Note the two lemons ripening on the tree right now.
A close up on one set of flowers. Lemon flowers smell like lemon sugar - sweet and just slightly lemony. There's really nothing like it. If one happens to bloom while they're indoors, it will make your house reek of lemon sugar.
Another group of flowers. In this picture, you can also see how extensively I've staked this tree. When I first got it, it fell over in the first strong wind, and uprooted itself. I tied it firmly to the pot. Then it got these huge heavy lemons in awkward places that tried to tip it over again. Someday, I hope it will have a strong enough trunk to support its head.
Here's the Washington navel orange tree. You can see that it's putting out a ton of growth at the top. I pruned it pretty heavily early in the spring, becasue it had a lot of branches that were growing the wrong direction. It's trying to make up for that.
Some of the orange flowers. Like the lemon flowers, they smell like sugar, but not as orangey as the lemons are lemony.
The tangelo has just now started to put out growth. I was wondering what it was waiting for ... whatever it is, that time has apparently arrived. When it blooms, I will take more pictures. :D
