You know, in a way I wish I were reviewing these in the order in which I read them, not the order in which they were written. Because Vampire Hunter D really doesn't give you a good idea of the mind-bending awesomeness that is this series. It's like the pilot episode of any series ... you can't judge the rest by the pilot. Paraffin beauty? I'm sorry, did I forget how to read? What is that meant to MEAN?

And I really hope that my backside is not like a succulent fruit ready to explode. I really, REALLY hope not.

*laughs* I love these. They'd just ... wonderful. Bother, I can't go to the library where I think they had one. *is sad*

"Paraffin beauty" seems to imply that his complexion is suffering from dull, waxy buildup and he could use an application of Pledge.

Bonus WTF: "D didn't make a move. He had the air of a young poet listening to the song of the wind."

That line doesn't sound too bad, though I also recently read "The Name of the Wind," by Patrick Rothfuss, so it sounds like something that could be in that novel. Everyone I've encountered who has read it is all "Oh my God so awesome!" over it. I wasn't quite as impressed, mainly because the character is way too damn perfect to be interesting, to me.

I thought that line was just really purple. I mean, more purple than the rest of the book.

Half of the fun of VHD is that D is beyond perfect. And it's always hilarious to see how many new ways his perfection can be described.
