It's that time again.

To watch daytime TV?

To remember the Alamo?

NO! And it's not even time for today's lesson. It's time for a plant post!

I haven't done one of these for a while, and to post updated pics of all my plants would make this post insanely huge and long, so I'm only going to do a couple.

Click for the man-eating plant, the adorable baby aloe, the tiny fig tree, and CALLIE. Image-heavy - beware if you are on dialup, but if you are, wtf are you still doing on dialup? )

Oh, the plants are gorgeous! Absolutely lovely. And well done for saving that tree - what an awful thing for someone to do!

Callie! Yes, she is a butterball but she's adorable. One day, I will own a cat. I really, really will.

I was so unhappy for the past couple of months, with no cat in the house. I didn't pick this cat, and probably wouldn't have cos she is INSANELY FAT but I'm still happier with a cat around than without. :D

Isn't it just? But yours is pretty crazy as well.

I read downstairs that you give the plants caterpillars, but would feeder crickets do the job, or would they be too big?

I think any garden pest that would fit into the traps would be fine. I don't feed it LIVE bugs, though - there's too much danger of the bug crawling out and damaging the plant. I squish their little heads with tweezers first. :D

You can get crickets in several sizes, and the smaller ones would fit right in with no problems.

Okay... I gotta ask... Do you feed the man eater bugs? Or does just sunlight do the trick?

I feed it bugs, but they are capable of living indefinitely with none. They won't grow as fast or be as healthy, but bugs aren't strictly necessary. They're like fertilizer, really. I don't feed it many bugs (one per trap, and not all traps get one). One fat caterpillar early in the spring gave it a big growth spurt.
