A scenario

You file for a passport in person mid-March, you think that it will go through without a hitch, you are TOLD by the official that you'll get it between X-and-X date, but noooo. Nothing happens. Then you are waiting day in and out for word on the status on this apparently nonexistent application while time is ticking. Moreover, the feds lie to you ( Read more... )

That is so incredibly fucked up. I've never heard such an awful passport story. I'm so, so sorry -- I would suggest you contact both of our Senators as soon as possible. They'll help you out a lot.

I could but I'm afraid it could be too late. I'm also wondering if I'll even be able to get this new passport in time for my departure. I have the appointment on Wednesday which is the soonest I could get it conveniently. But, I read on the state department website that expedited passport applications take 2-3 weeks to process! That would be no where near the amount of time I need this one. So I might just cancel the entire trip and stress eat for the rest of the summer.

That is so terrible, I can't even believe it. People aren't traveling much right now ($$$$) so processing time is faster than the website says. I got my expedited passport in about a week.

That's somewhat reassuring but I leave on next Monday so I don't know what's going to happen :(.
