Whilst in town this afternoon (met up with the NaNo people to do a bit of a mini-write-in type thing just to keep the creative juices flowing), we came across this as a prompt, and were asked to write for ten minutes from the viewpoint of someone who steadfastly believes in it.

I'd love to travel to Australia, but whenever I get the opportunity I can't go, because plane tickets are to expensive. Prices to Australia are extreme, and I'm wagering this is true anywhere in the world, from the tip of Chile to your native land of Iceland. Also hotel prices are high. The fact that only the truly elite ever "see" Australia suggests to me that Australia is actually an elaborate joke, perhaps concocted by royalty (it was originally British, after all), to have a little fun with the bourgeois and proles.

L Frank Baum left us a clue that Australia is not real. He named his magical land Oz, a subtle hint that the real Oz is indeed make-believe. The conspiracy was unhappy about it and assassinated his character, even forcing him to change the name of his film division to not refer to Oz and ultimately influencing events so the name "Oz" became box office poison. Strangely, I've entertained the possibility of Australia being make-believe at times too, although without the OMG FLATNESS problem.

Having family there kinda ruins it though.

Thanks for the find Rob, that was extremely enjoyable to read, plus you proved there are actually people more mentally unstable than creationists (and maybe even scientologists too, but thats a close call)
