Making the first of my drabble posts from the
many lovely prompts given me.
This is for
cordelia_v who requested something involving Snape and academic politics. I hope this suffices: one hundred words isn't a lot in which to pull that off. Set sometime before "Half Blood Prince" and quite non-spoilery. And my first attempt at Snape. Most intriguing!
Rejection
Parchments piled on his desk: the detritus of yet another term. Most of these, Severus knew, could be safely ignored: unclaimed essays and exams (most liberally marked with his own impatient scrawl), querulous complaints from professors protesting detentions he’d imposed, unnecessary ministry regulations and other ephemera of the year.
On the top, one sheet in Dumbledore’s handwriting, drew his attention. The letter expressed the headmaster’s most sincere regrets for, yet again, denying his application for the Defense Against the Dark Arts position.
Severus dismissed the stacks to the tinderbox excepting the letter. That, he meticulously filed with its many predecessors.
