HP Drabble: Bibliophobe

Sep 10, 2006 22:03

Written for celandineb who requested something involving Hermione. This is set late in the series and is written from the perspective of someone who's been driven that little bit too far on occasion in her own research:

Bibliophobe
Hermione stared with loathing at the stack of musty books. Another afternoon wasted in the library. None of the books contained the secret to defeating Voldemort. Vile books!

She didn’t know exactly when she stopped loving books. Maybe it had been when Dolores Umbridge had driven them through the DADA textbook so mercilessly while the world began to crumble around them. Maybe it began when research had failed to save Buckbeak.

It might be petty, but she counted this as one of the Dark Lord’s worst crimes, that he’d managed to turn what had been her greatest joy into toil.
