I've been reading on LJ quite a bit and commenting some. But I haven't been posting much.
The reason for this is that I've been working like a crazy woman to get Redemption ready as original fiction. I set April 1st as a release date. At the time, that day seemed like it gave me a generous window of time to prepare. The sad thing is most of my effort hasn't gone into the story. I'm still working on the editing. As of last night, I've shaved about 850 words away. Content hasn't been lost so much as streamlined. Everything happens in the story just as it did originally, except where I had prose such as "He took a seat in the chair," it now reads "He took a seat." I tend to overwrite and with this project, I'm making a conscious effort to be better about that.
Most of my time has been tied up with marketing, which is kind of new for me. I don't like talking about myself all that much and as I'm writing under a pseudonym, it's not like I can be all that forthcoming anyway. I work for a relatively conservative employer in a very conservative country. Telling everyone I'm trying to make a go of it as a writer of gay romance would not be a good idea.
So I now have a new moniker--Olivia Duncan Craig. Why that name? I went with three names rather than two because every time I chose a regular first/last name combo, I'd find out someone already had a website, Facebook account, etc. Throwing in a middle name suddenly made things easier. These three names are relatively easy to spell, and you may have noticed, the first name...might remind frequent readers of this LJ of someone (with big ears and a tail).
So, I've managed to launch a
Facebook page,
Twitter account, and
website. I've also designed a
book cover and a promotional
book trailer (On Windows Movie Maker--how do people use that software?! I've ordered a new copy of Premiere. It won't come a moment too soon.) Not bad for two weeks' work.
If you'd like to take a peek, I'd welcome it. I'd also love to hear your feedback if you have any. I'm kind of learning as I go here. I expect to make mistakes. Hopefully they won't be so egregious that people won't want to read.
